Ohio State football: Beanie Wells doubtful for USC

by Doug LesmerisesThursday September 11, 2008, 12:28 PM

Ohio State running back Beanie Wells did not practice this morning after experiencing too much soreness after practicing last night.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said he considers Wells doubtful for Saturday's game against USC.
Tressel's hope was that Wells would feel better today after practicing last night at about 75 percent, getting closer to 90 percent. Instead he has taken a step back and his availability is much more in doubt than it was earlier in the week.
More to come.

This just seems so strange. Tressel thought Beanie could play against OU, then we saw him running and jumping on his foot and Tressel continually said he was almost sure Wells was going to play.

And I'm not sure how he goes from 75% to doubtful...:( I was almost sure he would be albe to play and help the team. It's going to be very hard beating USC without Beanie. Like Georiga without Moreno or Florida without Tebow...

Well, in all fairness, JT did say that he'd let Beanie practice and then see how sore he was after going full go. Sounds like he's pretty sore today. Maybe he rests up and feel great before the game on Sat. I'd still be shocked to not at least see him give it a go.

There's a big difference between jogging on the sideline and jumping up and down a few times, on the one hand, and sprinting, stopping on a dime, etc., on the other.

If Beanie doesn't play we are going to have to see more TP or get more creative to run the pill against USC. No more handoffs to #34 up the gut. More draws, options, shovel passes, etc. will be needed.
