RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

USC has the edge...the crystal football isn't as important as the AP and FWAA awards
sure thing Ted, whatever you say...

edit;

USC was playing for a third consecutive national title... you might not like hearing it... but I'm guessing truth has hurt you many times... and I mean that in the nicest possible way...

Ok, I'm done quoting this man. The Crystal resides in Baton Rouge for the 2003 season, its that simple. - it's almost like saying that this year's LSU team aren't the true national champions - ridiculous

This coming season, Beanie Wells will by vying to post Ohio State's 25th 1000+ Yard season by a Buckeye running back.

No OSU back ever gained as many yards as Beanie's 1609 in their first season of leading the team in rushing. The closest was Pepe Pearson's 1484 in 1996.

As fate would have it, if Beanie manages another 1000 yard season, he will knock Pepe out of the top 5 of Ohio State's all-time career rushing yardage list. If he manages more than 1015, he will surpass Keith Byars for 4th place. If he matches his 2007 output, he will pass Eddie George for 2nd place all-time. If you have to ask who is #1 on that list, go back to gbw.com.

In addition to joining the top-5, all-time career rushers; another 1000+ season from Beanie would add him to the list of 5 (soon to be 6) Ohio State backs who have ever led the team with 1000+ yards rushing in multiple seasons.

They are:
  • Archie Griffin: 73, 74*, 75*
  • Tim Spencer: 81, 82
  • Keith Byars: 83, 84#
  • Eddie George: 94, 95*
  • Antonio Pittman: 05, 06
  • Beanie Wells: 07, ???
* = Heisman Trophy
# = Earned Heisman, but not awarded Heisman

If Beanie can be close to %100 all year, I really think he could realistically put up 1800-2000 yds. You have to assume that there will be improvement both due to experience and being healthier than last year. 4/5ths of the line is back. The only thing that concerns me is no experience at fullback, but Beanie can run out of a single back. It's just nice to have the versatility. I'm sure someone will step up. I remember when I heard Dick Tressel say that Beanie reminded him of Jim Brown (before his frosh year), I thought, "No way in hell does any 18 year old kid run like the most dominant player of a generation!"; then I saw him run. He carries his weight a lot like Brown. He looks taller than 6'1", and is very lean for 235. He's got a great stride that reminds me of Brown and Eric Dickerson. I think this year a healthy Beanie, half a step quicker, beats more of the shoe string tackles, meaning more home runs. It will be a thing of beauty.

No doubt Beanie is capable of putting up huge numbers. But I can't help but wonder if JT doesn't spread the ball around a little more this year and get more creative in playcalling with TP waiting in the wings. Plus, I think we'll crush some teams this year which will also decrease Beanie's carries. The Bucks will be much more than the Beanie show this season(although as we all know and just ask scUM, we can sure win that way). :biggrin:

Hopefully Todd matures enough to be trusted to throw it a little more as well so we don't have to pound Beanie every play.

Beanie will dominate, but I just don't see JT pounding him all game against the "lesser" opponents.
