RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

RBs have the shortest life span of any position in the NFL and if the guaranteed money is there, it's very hard to pass it up.

Agreed. Look at Hart, when you convert his signing bonus from Euro's to dollars he's going to make like 50 grand or so.

Of course its hard to pass up anything on one of these

This is interesting, and sure would be great if it holds true.

That would be freaking awesome.

But I wouldn't bet the mother in laws house on it.

If he stays great, if not, shake his hand thank him for his contributions and wish him well in the NFL.

There was a lot wrong with Clarett between the ears, but he understood that a RB has only so many carries in his body, may as well get paid for as many as possible.

gosh I would love to see chris stay and he would be the #1 pick hands down by the time he would be a senior. However, if he gets even remotely banged up this year i would like to see him go for the NFL. The kid is going to deserve every penny he earns whenever his time in the NFL is.

CPD: Ohio State's Wells taking aim on '08 Heisman

Ohio State's Wells taking aim on '08 Heisman

Columbus -- Beanie Wells' first Heisman dream, initially discussed in his living room with his father during his sophomore year at Akron Garfield, is dead.

"I told him I wanted to be the first freshman to win the Heisman," Wells said Thursday, "but that didn't happen. So I just want to get it, honestly."

With that, the 2008 Heisman campaign of Chris "Beanie" Wells, Ohio State running back, began. The junior-to-be has not pondered whether beanbags or Beanie Babies would make for better Heisman propaganda, but he has considered everything else.

"I'm not going to sit here and tell you I don't think about winning the Heisman," Wells said after OSU's fifth spring practice, "because that's something I work hard to try to accomplish; that's something I want to do.

If he rushes for 1583+ yards this season, he will rank 2nd all-time in rushing yards in a career.

If he rushes for 1703+ yards in his last two seasons, he will rank 1st all-time in rushing yards in a career.

If he rushes for 18+ TDs in his last two seasons, he will rank 1st all-time in rushing TD in a career.

People get so hung up over the temptation of the mighty dollar that they forget what it means to have a dream. If he even has a shot at breaking the yardage record and he decides to come back for his senior season, it will set the Buckeye world on fire. Particularly, it would excite the buckeye fans that weren't alive to see Archie play, which would certainly include his peers. If that legendary status is what is most important to him, he will most definitely chase after it with everything he's got, regardless of how much money is waiting for him on the other side of the fence.

If he does indeed stay for all four years, he could become only the second player ever to win the Heisman twice and hopefully lead us to back-to-back national titles (best possible scenario). Still, if he should have a great year--even win the Heisman--and lead us to a national title, he'd be a guaranteed top-3 pick in the draft, and all that "chance to make college history" schmazz goes right out the window when the pros are waving a $50M contract in your face.

Wells not too shy to talk about Heisman

Coming off a season with 1,607 rushing yards, 'Beanie' thinks he can be the best.

COLUMBUS ? Some college standouts shy away from talk about the Heisman Trophy, as if the very mention of the statuette will somehow jinx their future.
Not Ohio State tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells. He's not only thinking about winning it this fall, he's been planning on it for the past few years.

"I'm not going to sit here and tell you I don't think about winning the Heisman," he said Thursday, April 3, after the Buckeyes went through their paces in spring practice. "Because that's something I've worked hard to accomplish."
He said he first started contemplating the Heisman back when he was a sophomore at Garfield High School in Akron.
"Me and my father were sitting in the living room. I told him I wanted to be the first freshman to win the Heisman, but that didn't happen."
Chuckling, he added, "So, you know, I just want to get it, honestly."

Buckeye Wells thinks about history
OSU back wants to leave his mark

REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS All last season, the mark was on Chris "Beanie" Wells. There were welts, bruises, scraps and broken bones.

Now Ohio State's running back wants to give back.

He wants to leave his mark on the Buckeyes football program and his name on a Heisman Trophy.

"I came here to play football and to leave a mark," Wells said. "I didn't just come here to be a part of the team and say I played college football at Ohio State. I want to leave a mark.

"When somebody talks about Ohio State and the great players, I want my name to be mentioned. We have Archie Griffin, Eddie George, Keith Byars ... those are some great guys, but I want my name to be at the top."

It is on one account. None of them had the kind of sophomore season Wells did. No one in Buckeye history ran for 1,609 yards, and Wells did it as a 19-year-old. In fact, he won't turn 20 until August.

Football: Wells isn't shying from Heisman hyperbole

Football: Wells isn't shying from Heisman hyperbole

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

When Chris "Beanie" Wells says he wants to make a mark, he's not referring to the bruises his 235-pound battering ram of a body leaves on opposing defenders. The Ohio State tailback is talking about plaques on the wall and trophies in the lobby of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. He dreams big.
Good is not the goal. Great is.
"I didn't come here just to be a part of the team and just to say I played for Ohio State," Wells said. "I want to leave a mark, and that's something I work hard every day for."

It's interesting to see what drives people. It's obvious Beanie knows he's a special player, but he strives to do better - and that rubs off on his teammates. I forgot who said it on here, but Beanie doesn't need to prove anything to the world after last year. This year is just icing on the cake - and... I guess next year would be the sprinkles.
