RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

Beanie has 2,185 yards in two seasons (576, 1609). To break Archie's career rushing record of 5,589 yards, he'd need 3,404 yards over his final two years (1,702 per season). If his ankle and wrist heal up over this off-season, he could very well challenge the 2,000-yard barrier and put him within relatively easy striking distance of Archie's record. If he does indeed rush for around 2,000 yards and we lose no more than one regular season game, I'd say he gets the Heisman. Now, with a chance at being only the second person ever to win two Heismans and a chance to become Ohio State's all-time leading rusher, anyone who thinks Beanie wouldn't seriously, seriously consider staying for his senior year doesn't know him very well. Becoming a two-time Heisman winner and the all-time rusher at "three yards and a cloud of dust" U is something on which you can't put a dollar amount.

I like the "three yards and a cloud of dust" U comment. There has been a wave of Juniors recently making decisions to stay. I hope that these guys are setting the precedent for Beanie and others like him. Selfishly I would like to see him stay two more years. But then there's the lure of the NFL pot of gold.

Of course, he will have to carry the ball more than 20 times/game! Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.....:smash:

Games in 2007 where he didn't carry the ball 20+ times:

YSU (16)
N'wstrn (12)
Purdue (18)
KSU (4)

Nine of 13 games he carried the ball 20+ times. He'll get his carries in 2008...

I hope this isnt a dumb question, but how did mr. wells get the nickname beanie? I really dont know but am curious. Great player by the way, but I seen archie in the rose bowl and they are two different types of runners imo.

Childhood nickname arising from the size and shape of his head. :)

What Beanie really needs is a quarterback who knows how to throw the deep ball. What really hurt him is that this season the opposing teams didn't have to worry about Boeckman throwing deep....let's face it, he has of the worst deep balls we've seen in a long time. If he develops, or is overtaken by Henton, that threat will open more holes. If you remember the NC game, LSU did not feel the least bit threatened by either Boeckman's ability or our receivers ability to out run them. Beanie's perfomances will improve if there is more than one threat to worry about. :oh:

Did you watch any games besides the last two?

Todd has an awesome deep ball. In fact, the coaches say he throws the best deep ball out of any quarterback they've seen in a long time.

LSU wasn't threatened by our receivers. Our receivers weren't getting anything close to separation.

He had an off day at Illinois. I felt that Todd's throws were pretty much on target during the LSU game, but our receivers were getting handled.

The second half of the season, his deep throws were erratic at best...

Can we say jump ball? Hopefully that'll improve this year. I thought his arm strength was impressive but less of the "hail mary" type passes and more midrange stuff would be nice to see. With the wealth of WRs we'll be seeing on the field this year, the multiple receiver will be more experienced and ready for a few new tricks. I fully expect to see RobO and Hartline running deep patterns. I would like to see Dane and Ray get a shot doing the same. As well as Posey and Twash getting some reps.

Beanie totally dominates next season - this is his year to shine. 100% healthy all season long he will be amazing.

As for our wideouts - don't forget about newcomer Lamar Thomas (4.3) who will get reps at WR. He will be the burner that can stretch the field vertically and open up the underneath crossing routes for Robiskie and Hartline.

I'd also add Adrien Peterson to your list of recent sophmores ready to leave.

He's the only RB I've ever seen ready after his freshman year.

Well, Herschel Walker would qualify for that category as well.

and more recently Adrian Peterson...his freshman yr. was the best of his college career

Obviously getting back the reigning Heisman Trophy winner would be great, but going solely by the positions they play, Wells should go pro ASAP moreso than a Jenkins, or a Laurinaitis, or a Boone.

Boeckman throws the ball when WR's are open, and thats too late. He needs to anticipate them being open and deliver the ball on time. His biggest probelm is his timing... his throws are always too late giving the Db a chance to catch up and make a play...

He has the arm strength, but watch his deep balls...guys are always slowing down to grab them, instead of catching them in stride.
