RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

An interesting comment about Beanie's focus from Alex Boone.

official.site.press.conference

Q. Alex, I read a quote from Beanie
after the first game of the year where he said, I
feel like trash, because he didn't feel like he
played well in his first start when he got the
chance to be the guy, and obviously he's taken
off in the last Michigan game, how he played so
well. Just as the guy who blocks for him, how
far as he progressed during the year and
become the back?

ALEX BOONE: Well, the one thing I've
noticed about Beanie, whenever you try to talk to
him in a game he'll never respond, ever. And I
always thought it was because he was mad at me
about something, but I realized he's so focused he
doesn't notice me trying to ask him something. I
think that this year that's what he's done. He's just
more focused on the game. He sees the field
better. He's got a clearer mind.

He's come a long way from last year and
last year was a great season for him. And this
year he's had an even better season. Obviously
the sky's the limit for him. He could even go up. I
think this year he's more focused and seeing the
field a lot better.

Wells carries the load
OSU tailback motivated to erase memory of last year's title game

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

NEW ORLEANS -- While some of his Ohio State teammates might be interested in seeing the sights of the legendary Crescent City during their free time this week, running back Chris "Beanie" Wells will pass. There are sights to behold, especially on Bourbon Street and throughout the French Quarter. There's even a huge casino just across the street from the team's riverfront hotel. But Wells' plans in the evenings before the national championship game against LSU?
"I sit in my room and focus," he said, smiling, but serious.
A sight Wells took in a year ago, after the Buckeyes' 41-14 loss to Florida in the national championship game in Glendale, Ariz., seems to haunt him.

'Beanie' Wells a bull in backfield for No. 1 Buckeyes

By Jack Carey, USA TODAY

NEW ORLEANS ? After watching sophomore Chris "Beanie" Wells rush for 1,463 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, Ohio State fans might be wondering how good Wells could be if he ever was healthy.
Because despite running for 821 yards in the last five games, including 222 on 39 carries against Michigan in the season finale, Wells has been hampered by a sprained ankle and a broken bone in his left wrist.
Wells believes he broke his wrist last spring but thought it was merely sore and did not have an X-ray taken until late in the season.
The seven-week layoff leading up to Monday night's BCS title game against LSU has given him time to rest, but it's not completely healed.
"I feel refreshed in a sense, but with a broken wrist, it's something I'm going to have to deal with and play through," he says.

FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE FOOTBALL - Ohio State used to 'people hating on us'

Last year vs. this year's mentality according to Beanie:

Sophomore running back Beanie Wells said he felt an immediate change in the team's attitude when it got to New Orleans. "Last year, it seemed like we were going on vacation. This year, it feels more like a business trip."

I sure hope everyone is as ready as Beanie seems to be!

Sophomore Wells brings much-needed toughness to Buckeyes

NEW ORLEANS -- Coming into this season, as Ohio State tried to rebuild its roster and psyche after an embarrassing 41-14 loss to Florida in the 2006 BCS Championship Game, the Buckeyes had more questions than the Riddler.

Could junior Todd Boeckman effectively succeed Heisman Trophy-winner Troy Smith at quarterback? Who would replace big-play receivers Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez? Was Ohio State's offensive line really as slow as the Gators made it look?

At least Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel knew who was going to replace Antonio Pittman, his team's workhorse tailback who ran for 1,233 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

I've said it before, and now that Superman Tebow was contained by slow-assed Michigan, if Beanies runs for 150+ in a victory on Monday he'll be the front-runner for the Heisman next season...

I'm not so sure we have ever had a player more focused as Wells is week in and week out. This kid puts so much pressure on himself, I mean an enormous amount, kinda makes you feel sad a little, but man, great to have a guy like that on our team. I think he has set the tone for the rest of the players No ****ing around, no monkey business.

Ohio State notes: Chris Wells still not well, but time off has helped
Chris Assenheimer | The Chronicle-Telegram

NEW ORLEANS ? Chris ?Beanie? Wells was a first-team All-Big Ten selection, rushing for 1,463 yards and 14 touchdowns during the regular season.
Imagine the year the sophomore from Akron could have produced had he been healthy.

Wells played much of the year with a sprained ankle and all of it with a broken bone in his left wrist, something he didn?t detect until X-rays were taken late in the season.

With the long layoff before the BCS Championship Game on Monday, Wells has had time to heal, but not completely.

?I feel refreshed in a sense, but with a broken wrist, it?s something I?m going to have to deal with and play through,? Wells said. ?It was a pain (in the regular-season finale at Michigan), but I wrapped it up and didn?t pay much attention to it. I just got more focused on the game.

?I always knew I would do anything for this football team. Through anything, I want to fight to help this team.?

Even a Wells short of 100 percent has been tough to deal with for opposing defenses. He ran for 821 yards in the last five games, including 222 yards (the most ever by a Buckeye back against Michigan) and both touchdowns in a 14-3 victory over the Wolverines.

The consensus says that No. 1 Ohio State and Wells must run the ball effectively to beat the second-ranked Tigers, who are well aware of the threat the

6-foot-1, 235-pound ?Beanie? poses.

?He?s a big guy,? said LSU?s all-everything defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey. ?He runs the ball hard, and he?s got some great moves. I think he?s faster than people give him credit for.

?He?s a quick, powerful guy, and we?re going to have to be on top of our game and try to stop him.?

The competition at his spot also helps him stay focused IMO. Not that he was ever in jeapordy of losing his spot, but earlier in the year when he was struggling a bit, Mo Wells got some time as well as Saine. Saine made some big plays and it's almost like Beanie stepped up his game to put any thoughts of splitting carries on the backburner.

Beanie showed his make-up in last year's weasel game (06),when he went over to Troy Smith, who was sitting on the bench, and told him the team needed him (Smith) to get with it. This, after Smith had a mishap on the field. I don't think any other team member would have thought of approaching TS at the time. Beanie has the spirit of Keith Byers, the determination of Archie G., and the physical abilities of a Jim Brown.
