RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I know everyone is high on the Beanie Wells Heisman campaign, and rightfully so, but you gotta remember a couple things. Tim Tebow is likely to win the Heisman this year and he's only a sophomore. Odds are he could likely come back next year and win it ahead of Wells, given that he's a bigger name in the national media also doesn't hurt. Throw in a player like Knowshon Moreno and Ryan Mallett (Ok, I was kidding about Mallett) and it will be a very tough race for Wells. Not saying it's impossible, just a few things to remember
If there were other standout players this year, Tebow wouldn;t be on the list.. a QB with 3 losses normally won't win the heisman, this year has been crazy.

Yeah, who are we kidding? Ohio State running backs... when have they ever won a Heisman? :ohwell:

I think if Beanie has another monster game in our bowl, he'll officially launch his heisman campaign. As for Tebow...even if he wins it this year, it's very difficult to repeat. Especially as much as he gets hit, tough to stay healthy as well. And as for being the front runner going into the season...just ask Darren McFadden how easy it is to live up to the billing. Before the season, many out there thought McFadden was the overwhelming favorite.

Anyway, just saying...even if Tebow wins it this year, Beanie still has a great shot at it next year.

Mallett is ineligible to win a statue.
He IS a statue!

Yeah but Tebow's taken advantage of it. He's had a great season, he's got the name recognition from last year, everything is working out for him

He has had a great season, but I just can't get over the 3 losses. Think about all the great players in years past that didn't get a shot at the Heisman because there team stinks. I just can't give it to Tebow because it is unfair to all those other guys.

The heisman trophy has pretty much morphed into the award for the MVP of one of the top teams. Tebow doesn't fit the bill.

I'm going with Colt Brennan as long as Hawaii stays undefeated.

What does that response have anything to do with what I said? All I said was he had stiff competition.

Just sayin' that being the next great back at Ohio State carries a bit of notoriety with it, albeit somewhat diminished now.

He'll have plenty of competition, no doubt. In fact, I think maybe Beanie's biggest opposition to winning a Heisman might just be his own coach and team. Tressel would never play him (or anyone) to pad his stats, and while he is a crucial factor in our offense, we won't have to lean on him every game next season to get us the W. Basically, if Beanie is getting 30 carries a game next year, we're in trouble.

So you'd rather continue a ridiculous system than finally award a deserving candidate? Especially when there is a complete dearth of quality candidates?

He's also been nursing a shoulder injury all year from the battering he's taken, and he'll probably have surgery on it in the off-season.

I know its a little bit early to be already thinking about next year but, Beanie better have a great off-season to prepare himself for a better year next year. That game at USC can put him on the map of elite college RB's (in the National picture, I still feel like he doesnt get any notorioty much like pittman) if he has a good game at the Colesium. But im still looking forward to see him pound some Pac-10 team into the ground at the Rose Bowl, hopefully this time off will give him such much needed rest to some slight injuries.

Ohio State's Wells runs way to Player of Week honor

Ohio State running back Chris Wells ran for a career-high 222 yards on 39 carries against Michigan to earn this week's USA TODAY's Player of the Week honor. The sophomore scored his team's two touchdowns, including a 62-yard run early in the second half that helped the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines 14-3 and secure the outright Big Ten title. Wells won the award with the support of college football editor Erick Smith and the fan voting. Gannett News Service columnist Mike Lopresti sided with Missouri wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

THIS WEEK'S OTHER NOMINEES

Zach Brown- P.J. Hill's backup at Wisconsin didn't miss a beat, running for 250 yards on 29 touches and two touchdowns in the Badgers' 41-34 triumph over Minnesota.

This injury tidbit is buried at the end of an article about Coach Tressel:

Beanie's break:

Ohio State running back Beanie Wells said he played the entire season with a broken bone in his left wrist, an injury he said first occurred last season. Wells was wearing a brace on his left wrist Tuesday night and said he will eventually need surgery, but that he'll wait until after the Buckeyes' bowl game.
