RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

Notice the blood stain on his pants next to the Nike swoosh. Maybe he's taking this "warrior" thing a little too far. :tongue2:

Beanie was grinding tonight like we all expect-great to see. I wish Tressel would have given him a few more carries in the 4th. Given that he is only 5th in B-10 in rushing, I wonder if the coaches/media will see the light and vote him 1st team All Big 10?

I think Hart is the best back in the B10. Beanie may be second, I dont know, but Hart is still ahead of him.

Hart is the best only because he is given the ball (and goes left) basiclly every play. I think without a doubt Beanie is the BEST running back in the big ten and probably the best pro prospect at the running back position. Maybe Mcfadden? However when you're 240 running as fast as he does and has the vision he has there's not many people that can measure up. Not only that but he's only like 19 years old or something maybe 20? By the time he's matured you're looking at a 240-250 machine.

Hart will be lucky to be a ever so often used 2nd-3rd string back in the NFL.

Hart has the numbers because he's the focal point of that offense.. Beanie is important but we try and do many other things and we also play many other backs.

Beanie had a nice game against PSU. You can really tell a difference between him and Mo Wells (obvious) almost any time, but if you watch their hole selection (***ahem*** Thump) it's night and day. Their reading ability is drastically different in favor of the Big Dog.

The point of my post now- I noticed something about C. Wells I hadn't seen all season. Maybe I was overlooking it, but it appears to be a new weapon in his arsenal: He's making tacklers pay. It's one thing to run over someone, but his new move tends to be a little extra "lower and pop" move he's delivering, similar to the hip roll in a nice tackle. When he was falling backwards, even, he's delivering the pop in the form of a squatting or cleaning lift towards the tackler. It's almost like he's gained enough confidence in his game at the collegiate level that it's not only a lowering of the shoulder, but also a little roll of the core to make sure the DL/LB/DB knew they were just hit by Beanie.

Sorry, but while Hart is indeed a solid, dependable back, tell me that you wouldn't rather have Beanie in your backfield for a crucial 90-yard drive late in the game...

Beanie has what... 2 big games as a feature back? (note I mean 'big time', he's been consistently 'good' in earlier games) I think the potential is certainly there to eclipse Hart, but ignoring injury... I think the mouth is more established in big games at this point. As for the 04 OSU game, I'm not sure Beanie would do that much against that defense either.

I like Hart's ability to make something out of nothing and make the first man miss. If you can get penetration before Beanie gets rumbling, he can be brought down much easier than hart.

I'm thrilled that OSU will go to battle with Beanie, I just think he has to keep it up over a longer period before I put him above Hart.

I actually agree with both of you on this discussion. Mike Hart is a senior, and we've got at least one more year of Beanie....

The second statement begs for continued success and I also feel this is a solid point, where I found myself left wondering how much Beanie really wanted it throughout the first part of the season.

I'll be quite honest, Beanie isn't the only one who had early season struggles (as evident by my posts in other threads). I think if we would've played a powerhouse early this season, our (lack of) maturity would have us staring at a loss right now. However, those first 8 helped a lot in the maturation process (as speculated in preseason) and made this team legitimate because of the evolution of players (like Beanie). Yes, I believe a legitimate #1 now. That's not saying they will not lose, I'm saying that they played well enough they should be undisputed by the pundits (of course that isn't the case either).
