RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

actually, the only negative I have with Hart (besides the team he plays for) is that in THE GAME he has not been that great.

Though he may not have been great in '04 & '05, he had a pretty great game last year. Here are his stats in The Game since he came to Michigan:

'04- 18 carries for 61 yards & 1 TD, 1 Rec for 39 yards
'05- 9 carries for 15 yards and 2 Rec for 11 yards (I believe he was hurt in '05)
'06- 23 carries for 142 yards & 3 TDs, 2 Rec for 5 yards

That's an average of 16.6 Carries per game, 72.66 yards, 2 TDs & 1 Rec for 18.33 yards.

Either way I'd still take Beanie....considering Hart has been the starter all 3 of those years. Hopefully Beanie will atleast double his effort from last year, this year and continue to progress in years to come.

:oh:

I just went through all nine games' play-by-play charts. Beanie has lost one fumble this year, against Minnesota with 6:00 minutes left in the game while we were running out the clock (he has also recovered one of his own fumbles). Maybe not Mike Hart-like in non-fumbling, but I think losing only one fumble in 174 carries is pretty damn good, and Beanie's big edge in power negates the 0.6% of his losing a fumble on any given carry...

The fumble against MSU was pretty bad though. After 2 consecutive defensive TDs for MSU to cut it closer, the first thing on your mind should be to not cough it up deep in your own territory...

But trust me, I love Beanie, and he will be a great back. Right now I think he is very good, but once he gains a better handle on the game, and gets to full health, he will be downright scary.

But 1 lost fumble in 1016 touches for Hart is just ridiculously good. And while he may not have the body of Beanie or the pure strength of Beanie, Hart is a very powerful runner. His shoulders are HUGE, and for his height, he does a great job of always falling forwards after contact, and he will hit you. While he also may not burn you with his speed, he does have some great side to side moves in traffic to gain yards...

The one knock on Beanie right now is that he does lose yards on a handful of carries each game. He seems to sometimes always try to break it open right away each time, and will miss the side-step and lose 3 yards instead of bruising his way for a 2 or 3 yard gain. However, against Penn State, he seemed to be doing much better with hitting the hole hard.

With that said, if I was asked who I wanted for the season to be my runningback (at full health), I'm going with Beanie. But if I'm asked who I want to trust with the ball with the game on the line, at this point in time, Hart is my guy.

Chris Wells had a bit of a ho-hum day as he outpaced the passing side of the offense for 168 yards from 21 carries and 3 TD's, 2 of which came from a couple of 30 yard breaks through the heart of Wisconsin's defense.

One wonders what would have happened on the blocked FG drive if they had decided to let Wells have a chance at the goal instead of passing three times.

Said it before and I'll say it again: I love watching Beanie run!

he's such a talent, I'm absolutely amazed at the things he does. Such a great kid and he's really starting to take games over and rack up some phenomenal games.

BEANIE! BEANIE! BEANIE!
