Your weekly Carlos Hyde eye-popping statistics note: The senior running back has gained 1,164 yards on the ground over his last seven games, an average of 166.3 per contest. He carried the football a season-high 27 times against Michigan on Saturday and he tallied 226 yards, the most ever by an Ohio State running back against the Wolverines. This season, Hyde has gained 1,290 yards on 165 carries, an average of 7.8 yards per rush. He needs four more yards to tie Jonathon Wells for the 11th-most in a season in program history. Hyde, who missed the first three games of the season while serving a suspension, has two more tilts to cement his name higher in the Ohio State record books.
Untackleable (made up word:)
yes there are. you just don't know them .........There are no words to describe how good he is.
McShay: Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State Buckeyes
Hyde has proven to be one of the two or three most talented draft-eligible running backs this season. He had 226 rushing yards and a touchdown on 27 carries in Ohio State's one-point win over Michigan on Saturday, and he really impressed me with the way he took ownership of his first fumble of the season, apologizing to every offensive lineman on the sideline afterward. He responded by scoring the game-winning TD.
At 6-foot, 240 pounds, Hyde is clearly a big, powerful back and a strong inside runner. But what really stands out about him is how well he moves laterally (which allows him to get in and out of small creases quickly) and his good acceleration off of cuts. After recording just five carries in OSU's first four games (he was suspended three games to open the season), he has rushed for 1,249 yards in its past eight.
If I remember correctly, Duane Long - on his solo website before he gave it up - correctly had Hyde pegged as the dominating OSU feature-back of the future. Paraphrasing, he liked Rod Smith, but he loved Carlos Hyde.Pretty cool and funny reminiscing on Carlos' past rankings when he was coming out of HS. Rivals didn't have him in their top 250! AND he was ranked only 50 in the state of Florida, the guys in front of him have mostly fallen off, and he was the forgotten member of a three man RB class, that also included Jordan hall and Jamal berry. What a difference a few years makes.
