RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

How so? Boom was rolling, and is the most reliable back on the roster. With the wind the way it was and our gameplan of doing virtually nothing but running the ball, you keep feeding the baddest stallion in the barn...

I agree.

I hope he doesn't go elsewhere because we will need him next year, and he will have a large role in our offense, but if he gets discouraged this easily after one game........

Simple you have a guy already on a roll from the game before to not give him a chance to see if he can continue that roll is a bad decision in my mind. It's nothing against Boom or Hall but I just think his performance last game merited giving him the ball today much sooner then they did.

Love Hall, but if he gets another carry up the middle I'm going to have an aneurysm. Screen pass, pitch, shovel pass, sweep, anything but up the gut.
If you want to pound it put in Hyde, it doesnt take a genuius to figure that out.

Generally Hall has done a better job running inside than Hyde has. Better elusiveness between the tackles. Hyde, for all his size, is mostly a speed back.

Childish remarks that he needs to realize are read by thousands of people. I'm really sad to hear that sort of thing. The type of running we did today was not the type of running he does well. In fact, I'm not sure what Carlos offers that Boom doesn't. You maybe sacrifice a little power, but not much, and you gain so much more with Boom in there without even considering intangibles. I would never expect Carlos to think that but I would expect him to respect the gameplan and realize his place. He's had plenty of opportunities.

This is a team sport, and Boom offered the team the best chance to win - today. They played Boom because he had the fresh legs and he was having a good day. Hyde will be back in two weeks with his fresh legs against a physical team. This team will need him against Bret's Boys and having a RB like Hyde gives the team an edge when it appears that running the football is the best approach. I was sure glad to see the running game emerge again as the preferred means to move the ball, Woody would have loved it. And BTW, no footballs were thrown into the stands. Hard to do that when you're running it straight up the middle. I do think that the passing will return as Brax gains more confidence. In the mean time, run, run, run with an occasional pass works for me.

Hyde was snubbed badly vs MSU and underutilized against Nebraska. the culmination of frustration is understandable, the handling of it showed his youth. hopefully Fickell and others can use this as a very firm learning opportunity.

Bingo. Boom's one of the best RBs in the Big Ten, and certainly is the best on the team. There was not much room to run yesterday, but Boom made the o-line look like champs due to his vision and ability to get a few yards where there were none. The TD run was a great example--the play was called to the right, but Boom's vision allowed him to see the opening was to the left--and he had the footspeed to get there. This is not meant as a cut to Hall, Hyde or Smith, but from what I've seen this season, there's only one back on OSU's roster that can make that play for a TD, and it's Boom.

Agreed with everything here. I'd think, though, that he would've been more frustrated with his roles in the games against MSU and Nebraska, taking a backseat to Hall. The alleged complaint coming after the Illinois game doesn't make much sense to me--you don't expect to get more carries when the first team All-Big Ten RB comes back to the lineup.

Another thing is that the coaching staff might want to limit his carries to determine his level of stamina. He played a big part in the two games Hall was suspended out of necessity, and those were against teams that had less physical defenses. I think Hyde will be a great back, but we needed Herron yesterday.

Granted he should not have tweeted his feelings about his playing time but I understand how he feels.

Anyone on this board who has played organized athletics and have worked their asses off to get that playing time has had that same feeling and voiced it in one form or another and regretted it after the fact.

Yes the kid said it but deleted it later. Same thing as retracting a statement. I'm certain someone closer than any of us has already spoke to him about it.

Get off the kids back and stop being self-righteous. Let the players police each other up (which I am sure has happened).

Great win and time to prep for fucking Bucky! :oh:

Even during good times, players threaten to quit or transfer - it's not uncommon. Given the situation of this team this year, I'm surprised that we haven't had more players grumbling. If anything can be said in Fickell's favor it is that he has kept this team together so far, which will certainly help out his successor.

Since I'm the one that initially mentioned it, I never called him out on it. Just posted that he was unhappy with his carries for discussion sake. I never attacked him for his decision to do so, nor did I say it wasn't warranted. Honestly, I'd love for them to work in a way to put Boom and Hyde in at the same time and really scare opposing defenses. (Oh crap which one is going to truck us this time?)
