RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

FIFY.

Hyde doesn't need to feel bad that he's on the pine behind a back as good as Herron. He'll get his shot.

I think he probably feels bad because he's been the man and done all the right things (ie NOT getting suspended) and he goes straight to mop up time once the guy who has been suspended is back.

I know that Herron did his time, but I am of the opinion that you dance with what brung ya. Hyde should have gotten the start and, IMO, the wrong message was sent yesterday by starting Herron.

I completely get where Carlos is coming from. I couldn't believe we didn't see more of him yesterday.

I agree. Not to mention Hall and Hyde's stats aren't even close even though their total amount of carries are similar.Hyde has been better, plain and simple. At the very least Hall/Hyde could have split carries. If nothing else it's a little bit of a confidence deflation for Hyde imo.

Simple you have a guy already on a roll from the game before to not give him a chance to see if he can continue that roll is a bad decision in my mind. It's nothing against Boom or Hall but I just think his performance last game merited giving him the ball today much sooner then they did.

One game does not merit starting or playing over the first-team all-conference RB with three full years of experience. Hyde will get some chances later in the season and then he can compete for the starting job next season. But he has no right to bitch right now...Herron is the better RB.

Hyde`s argument is legit.....but he needs to state his case to the head coach. I was blown away that Boom started.....and I love the guy. It just sends the wrong message. Boom IS the best RB on the team but CH has kept his nose clean and performed better and better as the year has gone on.

I assumed that it was a team decision to start Boom and that he had the other RB`s support. Leaving CH out of the game plan is icing on the cake for this offense....it makes no sense....guy has earned the right to play. NO suspensions and he has been performing well. Win at all costs mind set that is typical of college sports.....ask Kelly at notre dame. Go Bucks

Agree with ysu. Hyde should have started as a way of honoring his stepping up, and as a small way of showing Boom that bad decisions continue to have consequences. But it is also true that I doubt Hyde sees the hole close, bumps left and scores that TD like Boom did. So start Hyde, then insert Boom a series or two later. Same result, less bad feelings.

Ultimately, this is not about Hyde, but tOSU winning a tough game with a young QB. UF had that same game yesterday. If we'd have had a Boom, we may have won. I would play Boom for sure, with that one small adjustment as to who started.

Forgive me if already posted, but part of this (in my IMHO) is that the offense didn't have the ball much in the 4th quarter.

I think the plan was- Boom's fresh legs and vision in the first half, start to spell him with Hall in the second/third quarters, and bring in Hyde to finish off the game. His power running, with fresh legs, would have destroyed that defense.

But, Zook chose to eat clock with his own offense, and we couldn't get the first downs to keep Carlos active.

I'm not saying I agree with the plan, as Hyde is a guy that needs a few touches to get warmed up. Just seems like there was a system that didn't work.

I posted as much on another board. I have no problem with Boom getting most of the carries. He is the best RB on the team and he showed in in the game. However, given that he got in trouble not once, but twice (whether we agree with it or not), he should not have started the game. It was a slap in the face to the guy that is the leading rusher on the team and the one that has carried the RB position for the first half of the season, all the while working his butt off and keeping out of trouble. To me, it sends a bad message to the team...it doesn't matter what has happened on the field and off, if you are the star returning player, you will get treated differently.

Then to top it off, Hyde doesn't get a carry until 6 minutes left in the game and he comes out immediately afterward. You could see his body language as he ran off the field how upset he was with coming back out.

Having said the above, I don't believe he made a good choice in voicing his frustration the way he did (some have said the tweet was not about his playing time, but it is too suspicious to think otherwise). That is a conversation to be had with Bollman and/or Fickell and kept there.

You are young, my son, and, as the years go by, time will change and even reverse many of your present opinions. Refrain therefore awhile from setting yourself up as a judge of the highest matters.

Who showed disrespect again? I'm 100% with Carlos on this one. Just another baffling decision from the staff to start Boom and not give Hyde much PT. Sends the wrong message among other things.

I don't understand why many are acting as though Boom is just getting off without any sort of punishment. Or that Hyde did everything right, Boom did not, and so therefore Hyde deserves the playing time over Boom?

Boom served his time for his wrongs (which was far too much IMO). He missed six games. Hyde spent the first half of the season benefiting from this. Why should he have to miss MORE time?

The idea that this shows the team that it doesn't matter what you do off the field, you'll still play, doesn't make sense. This whole situation showed that if you break the rules, you get suspended. In this case for half a season. I don't think any player is going to think, "Well why not break the rules, once I get back from my six game suspension I'll get to play again."

Herron served a six-game suspension. How much longer did it need to be to send the right message? He served his suspension in full and upon his return was still the best option at his position. I don't see why it's so baffling that he got the nod.

I was disappointed that Herron started the game. However, I was more disappointed that Carlos didn't see ANY action until late in the 4th. He would have been perfect with that 17-point lead starting late in the 3rd quarter against Illinois. His punishing running style combined with his speed... we needed a change-of-pace with fresh legs at that time and Carlos was THE man to do it.

Here's hoping he sees more action against Wiscy. Wiscy's defense is down this year and is susceptible to the run, based on a couple games I've seen of theirs this year. Hyde's going to figure into that game plan for sure... especially if we manage to have any type of lead in that game. Run that clock and punish those cheese log-eating clowns and that ugly, smug, sorry-ass excuse for a head coach.
