RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Ever heard of a redshirt? Hyde doesn't need carries next year. Our running game is better with a good blocking fullback like Boren. Hyde as a situational FB could work but I don't see the rush to get him on the field just to play FB.

No doubt, but looking ahead, 2011 and 2012 should have us with a lot of backs as well. Especially if Howard is in this class...

I mean some of it is my bias. I think it's a huge weapon to have a guy like Havili(sp?) that USC has. Just an extra threat, and Hyde seems like he has the potential to be both an effective blocking FB and a runner/threat to catch.

Of course, it's always easy to say that than to actually have it be the case. But that's why I'm on a message board

Not to change subjects, or take anything away from Carlos, but what's this mean for Erick Howard if his grades meet the requirements? Do we still give him an offer or just settle for Rod Smith?

I think they will find room for him even if that means gray shirting. Howard wants to be a Buckeye so bad I think he will do anything. Plus they can even red shirt 2 of the 3 backs coming in. I haven't read a lot about top RB's for the 2011 class yet so maybe they will be set until 2012.

As good as Boren is at FB, he prefers D. Look for him to move back to either LB of DE next year.

Really??? If thats the case I easily see the staff moving Martin back to FB then, Hyde should remain at TB and hopfully provide some power to go with our smaller guys(Hall and Berry). Or just have him for depth in general if he doesn't breakout next year, but don't make him a FB.

I've never seen the kind of depth at running back that we look to have next season. Boom and BSaine are back. Jordan Hall and Jermil Martin demonstrated themselves this season, and Jaamal Berry clearly impressed the coaches before he was injured. Add Hyde and Rod Smith and we are loaded.

so he made it in? AWESOME JOB CARLOS.

While we are stacked at RB... we saw Boom can get nicked a little, as well as Saine. We'll need a big body runner like him in the future.

So lemme get this right... We're gong to have Carlos, Saine, and the new recruit from Indiana all over 220 pounds? What a headache for LB's... Talk about throwing some size at a team. I think there can definately be a role for Carlos. Especially if they redshirt the incoming runningback.

This go agianst "the number"

I am assuming that Hyde counts against the 2010 number, taking the number of spots down to 3. How does this affect the remainder of the '10 recruiting... ie 2 Glennville guys, Henderson, LJ, Hicks, ect, ect, ect.?

If he, or any others, enroll early they count against 2009 (that class wasn't really "full" because some of them came in early and counted against 2008). In any case, the constraint will be the total number. Can't have more than 85 on schollie when school starts next fall.

Agreed. Count me amongst those glad to have Carlos as part of the 85!

There was some discussion recently on MGOblog that the big ten has recently changed its rules on early enrollment. Supposedly no way now to move guys up to get bigger numbers(25+) in a class. The only way now is to greyshirt players. Just food for thought as it applies to Carlos.
