RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

I won't be calling you out, because I've been thinking for quite a while that Hyde will fit in well here at Ohio State with his size.

I love the fact that Berry's in this class too, but I am very excited that Hyde is as well. I don't know what will ultimately happen, but if Hyde ends up better than Berry at Ohio State, I won't be shocked. That's taking nothing away from Berry, of course.

Here's to both of us being right!

I really have a good feeling about Hyde. While he may not have the speed or moves as Beanie I think he will be a battering ram. He could be lethal in the cold November games late in the Big 10 season.

I am envisioning him like a Jacob Hester, someone who doesn't wow you with athleticism, but just pounds away time after time and wears people down.

Anyway, here's to hoping!

Having watched some of his HS tapes, I think Hyde may become an integral part of tOSU's offense, he is not your typical FB, he seems to have good speed, and vision and just enough wiggle to get guys out of position so he can batter them. I agree, come late October and November, teams in the north need a guy who can get the tough yards in less than stellar weather. He may lack Beanies breakaway speed, but he will let defenders know that they are in a game, and if they shy from contact, he'll be by them into the open field.

Good point and welcome to the board, kwade. He might even have Brandon Jacobs like potential. He might be faster than even we are giving him credit for, and he might even be a huge Woody like factor as 4th quarter fatigue sets in on defenses. Love our incoming class and he's one of the reasons why!

MUCH better than a Jacob Hester, I think.

Brandon Jacobs is probably the best example. People are underestimating this guy's vision, which I believe has always shown to be the #1 most important attribute of a running back.

Dan Herron had it, Brandon Saine had a little bit less of it. Beanie Wells had it, MoWells had a little bit less of it.

Watching Carlos' tape, I think we can all safely say that this dude has VISION.

Careful.

Jacob Hester was one of those players where the whole was much greater than the sum of the parts. He continues to demonstrate that in the NFL, where before this season I thought he had zero chance of success.

They're two different types of backs, Hyde and Berry. I don't think there's going to be an issue there, but with some of the teams that are in the Big 10, sometimes you need a different kind of back depending on the setup. When I see Hyde on tape, I think of Mr. T inflicting massive amounts of pain on his opponent and wearing down the defense by going up the middle or off guard. He's a bit of Bryce Brown in a way, too. He's proven he can do it against good competition in the playoffs Florida (and has a state title to show for it). Berry is one you can toss the rock on a screen and let him fly or dump it to him on a pitch outside, that's where I see he him at tOSU, but in high school Berry was a guy who could literally do it all. However, when you get to the college level you use the best strengths of a player. Having that kind of tandem will really stick it to defenses.

Hyde, at 6-1 and 235 pounds, is the Buckeye who will most physically resemble Wells, who was listed at 6-1 and 236.

"He's thunder and lightning, I guess," said Bill Kramer, Hyde's coach at Naples High School. "He's two guys in one. He can pound it inside and he can still run away from people."

Hyde lived with his grandmother while attending high school, but his parents live in Cincinnati, so he was long considered to be headed to Columbus.

"It's his dream," Kramer said. "He's an Ohio kid through and through. Don't get me wrong, the Florida schools, they take note that he's leaving the state. They would have loved for him to stay in state and play, but that was never really an option for him."

Hyde rushed for 1,647 yards this season and scored 10 touchdowns while averaging 10.6 yards per carry. He is ranked the No. 1 fullback in the country by Scout.com and No. 2 by Rivals.com, but he's coming to Ohio State to carry the ball.

"I've known coach Tressel a long time," said Kramer, Hyde's coach. "And he and I are of the same opinion that no one would suggest to an incoming freshman that he's going to play right away."

National Signing Day: Collier's top seniors set to sign today with some of nation's top athletic programs
By ADAM FISHER (Contact)
Wednesday, February 4, 2009

NAPLES — Naples High running back Carlos Hyde has been committed to Ohio State for nearly eight months, but today he officially becomes a Buckeye.

Many high school athletes settled on a college long ago, but all that means nothing until their names are signed to letters of intent. Dozens of area seniors will put pen to paper today during national signing day, the first day athletes can make their choices official.

“I’ve been waiting for this day since (the Buckeyes) made the offer,” said Hyde, who verbally committed to Ohio State after his visit to Columbus in June.

Hyde will be just a small piece of the celebration this morning at Naples High. Eight football players and 11 total Golden Eagles will sign in a 7:30 a.m. ceremony in the school’s media center.

You know we've raked in a good class when 4-star recruits can be rightly deemed prospective sleepers!
 true

With all the Berry talk Hyde is being overlooked! He could be another Beanie-type RB.

Thanks for the link to the video. Carlos is a soft-spoken individual. Great to have him in S & G.
