RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Anybody remember Chris Gamble?
I vaguely remember, wasn't he some reciever with ok recieving stats

But in all seriousness, my cousin is a sophomore on this team, I don't even think he dresses varsity, but I know he said that, Carlos is an absolute beast to bring down and he's glad he's an offensive player. From the films I've seen I would agree with that.

Boys Prep of the Week: Naples' Hyde running away from opposition
By NICK KRUEGER (Contact)
Tuesday, November 25, 2008

NAPLES ? Carlos Hyde has handled the attention surrounding his play on the field as well as he has opposing defenses all season.

Now with the Naples football team advancing in the playoffs in search of another state championship, the senior fullback is leaving everything on the field.

In a backfield with the speedy Greg Pratt and the slippery Juno Prudhomm, Hyde continued his preferred method of trampling the other team. The Riverdale Raiders were the most recent case study ? to the tune of over 250 yards and five touchdowns. The season total was easily his most productive output of the season.

?I didn?t think that I was going to do that, but I did,? Hyde said. ?I had a lot of help from my offensive line and Greg, and it was like the O-line just opened hole after hole and I just went to them.?

Hyde?s performance was expected to play a role in Naples? game plan, but the numbers he posted were even a surprise to coach Bill Kramer.

?I don?t know if you ever expect that kind of performance, but I know that he is capable and I know that we have three that can be spectacular on any given night ? Greg went for over 150 but did a great job blocking,? the coach said. ?He has a ton of ability and he is going to have to keep playing this way now when it matters now. This is a one-week season and big players make big plays in big games, and we have had several guys ? we?re fortunate to have them, and Carlos is one of them.?

Riverdale, a team with a reputation of playing hard-nosed football on both sides of the line of scrimmage, couldn?t do much to slow down Hyde?s 230-pound frame.

This week, Hyde is turning his attention to Dunbar, which beat Lely 39-30 on Friday. Though Dunbar?s team athleticism may have been the deciding factor in the Tigers? win, they still allowed nearly 200 yards rushing, 174 of which to Trojans star Darion Hall.

Hyde expects to come away with similar results.

?I am just going to try and come hard and come off my blocks,? he said. ?My first goal was 1,000 yards, and I did that. Now I need another state ring.?

Prep football: Hyde does it again for Golden Eagles in win over Dunbar
By TOM GIRATIKANON (Contact)
Friday, November 28, 2008

NAPLES ? Tall, strong and elusive, Naples High running back Carlos Hyde began the year as a formidable force ? ranked by some as the nation?s best fullback, he committed to football powerhouse Ohio State.

But as Friday night?s game against Dunbar showed, the 235-pound back has only gotten better: Hyde rushed for 204 yards on 19 carries, making that two consecutive 200-yard rushing games and three in the past four. (He hadn?t even had a 200-yard game until the 50-33 victory over Lely on Nov. 7.)

Oh, and Hyde, while slipping through tackle after tackle, also scored both of Naples? touchdowns against the Tigers in the 17-14 Class 3A regional semifinal victory.

Naples coach Bill Kramer has noticed Hyde?s improvement.

?He?s gotten in a lot better shape this year,? the coach said. ?He?s playing fast and physical.?

For his part, Hyde said he?s learned a stronger work ethic that?s helped him get to 1,606 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the year: ?Hitting plays hard. Not taking a play off.?

Hyde has plenty of players to thank for his success, beyond his efficient offensive line: The ground threat of quarterback Juno Prudhomm and running back Greg Pratt kept Dunbar?s defense indecisive.

Though earning just 11 yards on nine carries on Friday, Pratt notched a milestone: He squeaked by the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season with 1,002. Add that to Prudhomm?s more than 700 yards, and Hyde produces just about half of Naples? running game, which racks up 300 and 400 yards each Friday night with ease.

I think we have an absolute superstar coming this way. With J Berry to compliment C Hyde, man the backfield with TP and Boom, we are absolutely loaded for the next couple years! There is no way we won't be in NCG discussion even more for the next few seasons at least!

This is a huge pick-up in recruiting. I know alot of people complain about this and that in recruiting but we have done very well for ourselves in the last 20 years in Florida. This kid is ready to play Div1. Runningback is one of the easiest positions to transition from one level to the next.

He reminds me of Clay from Wisconsin but maybe bigger. Thats a very scary thought...if your our competition...huge pick-up!!

I think it will be very interesting next week for Hyde and Naples as they get a chance to get some revenge against their next opponent, Monsignor Pace out of Miami who beat Naples to start the season, 24-23. Last time the game was in Naples, but this time the game will be in Miami. I have a few friends going to that game and they can give me a report as I already am slated to go to Killian vs. NW or Central game next week that's on the same night.

Does anyone know Hyde's season numbers?

I would like to see the game log because it appears as the season has gone on...the team has relied more on Carlos.

I think those numbers would be interesting

ya, they're quite good...

146 carries for 1594 yards (10.9 avg) and 16 touchdowns. Also 9 catches for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Carlos Hyde : Naples : Boys Football : Prepzone

Have no idea how this stacks up with others in his classification in Florida, but I'd guess he'd have to be in the running for the class 3A Mr. Football award...

I went to his game against Sarasota. He got injured early in the second half (after being tackled low, think it was just a thigh bruise and the game was a blowout)....but he looked pretty darn good on the 6 carries he had that night. Also had 2 kick returns for over 100 yards. Solidly built kid for sure, I'd say his reported measureables (6-foot to 6-1 and around 225 to 230 pounds) is fair after having stood next to him.

Small sample size when I saw him play, but I liked his body lean and thought he had good feet. Likes to stiff arm . Doesn't move still like a fullback IMO...but I'm no scout...

Where Hyde plays, his district, isn't very competitive. Remember his team beat up another team 91-0 this season. However, Hyde's numbers speak for themselves in the playoffs (they are defending 3A state champions), and some of those 3A schools give higher classification schools all they can handle in regular season and pre-season jamboree meetings. Monsignor Pace, their next opponent, will be a good test.

BTW, Florida schools will have some jamborees in May. At least for Dade County, I'll try to get out to a few of those when they come up.

a quick look at his Scout profile tells me how lucky we were to pluck him out of Florida, Ohio roots or not:

Offers: Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Florida.

Can you imagine being an opposing linebacker and seeing Hyde come at you when a hole opens between Shugarts and Adams?

Punishing.

Miami had been looking for a FB and had been pursuing him, however their recruiting zone doesn't have quite the reach out to Naples as it does other areas. A lot of kids in that area wind up usually out of state rather than one of the 3 state schools (or they wind up at one of the smaller schools like Central Florida or South Florida). Noel Devine, who came from Fort Myers just a bit north, wasn't heavily recruited as I thought he'd be and he wound up at West Virginia. Florida did get an excellent recruit in Hyde's teammate, OL Nick Alajajian.

I've told some friends of mine that are UM (University of Miami) fans that they can rant all they want, the Buckeyes have one of the finest, if not the finest, offensive line in the country. Any running back would love to have the guys they're going to have in front of them. Hyde and Berry are going to have a lot of fun next year. One thing we rarely have in Florida is good offensive lineman at the high school level that wind up doing well in college.

Brewster's a fine example and he went to a very good high school, Orlando Edgewater.

Since I am an alumnus of Jaamal Berry's high school, Miami Palmetto, I know of a fellow alumnus, Houston Texan's lineman (playing tonight) Chris Myers (who played at the University of Miami). He has a little brother, Matthew, who graduates next year from Palmetto, 6'1" 245 pounds.

But both Hyde and Berry running with OSU's o-line, that's scary, especially when you think of what Beanie can do right now.
