RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

Well, spreading the ball around to offensive players is something we rarely see in this offense. God forbid throwing the ball to the FB once in a while to keep the chains moving. I don't think that will change anytime soon. I'm discouraged by the offensive play last night. Where were the TE's? We were told Stoney was going to see the ball a lot. I think we saw TP throw once to the TE's but I'm just not sure what needs to be done aside from hiring a new OC. That again will not happen anytime soon. I'm buoyed by the defense. They are going to be real good.

Throw to the fulbacks? We threw it 3 times I know of to Saine out of the backfield when he lined up at FB. Or maybe twice because on the quick hit over the middle he motioned to the slot.

True, but how often has he done this in the past? My point being is the offense the Bucks run is not getting it done. I don't have to repeat this as it has been said a million times.

So why did you?
We all know some people have the same opinion as you but to myself, as long as the Bucks play with the heart and passion they had last night I am satisfied.

The Bucks left everything on the field last night. I as a fan could not have asked for anything more. I'm disappointed in the a number of offensive mistakes and poor execution. I just want to see offensive coaching change made on the offensve side of the ball. I know that will not happen this football season so we can just hope the unit continues to improve.

Gotta ask who you want to see go? which coach? and why do you think he should go? You hope the team improves? wth is that.

JT and the coaching staff don't need to go..They need to make some changes in their philosophy. The old saying "If what your doing or what you continue to do isn't working, you need to do something else" JT is a class act, he needs to get more aggressive. When everyone is changing around you, and you don't change. Your left behind....

He may not have meant someone leaving. Firing the OC means firing Tressel. Maybe it's time to bring someone in alongside JT.

And this team clearly needs to improve its execution on offense.

I also feel we should have went for the TD with 4th down. You have nothing to lose when you have lost the last 5 big games right? I also know that you have to throw your kids a bone and get some points for the drive....

He took a couple chances on Saturday. Throwing twice on the last possession of the first half gave USC a chance to get 3 points. Trying to pass on 3rd down on the penultimate possession of the game led to a sack and took OSU out of FG range. With OSU's short yardage struggles, taking the 3 points was the right decision in my book.

Saine continues to impress with his receiving ability. The catch he made going out of bounds at the goalline was fantastic. 1/2 yard less drift on the throw and OSU gats 6 there.

And nice to see the route from the H-back postion for him again. Worked well against LSU and had some nice success with it again Saturday.

Too bad we didn't see more of him throughout game - both running and receiving the ball. Not tyring to be overly critical, but the running game would be so much better if TP handed him the ball a few more times. Boom and Zoom can be an effective one/two punch but there's needs to be more Zoom than Boom in short yardage situations. Running the same plays over and over is futile. Mr OC please mix things up a bit more.

A question for people who were at the game, or who have watched the game a second time (I've only watched the live broadcast and it's difficult to see these things on television in real time). After the 3rd quarter drive that resulted in a FG, where Saine made a couple of key plays catching passes out of the backfield (and nearly caught a long TD pass, if it hadn't drifted out of bounds), I thought that was an area that OSU could exploit and could keep going back to for the remainder of the game (or at least until USC took it away). But it basically disappeared after that drive. My question is, did the staff/Pryor just not go back to that, or did the USC defense make a successful adjustment to defend that outlet?

They made an adjustment. From that point on when Saine was in the game, USC keyed him coming out of the backfield. OSU tried to then use him as a decoy to exploit other areas of the defense, but it never really came together.

Brandon's numbers for the first three games:

NAVY
9 - 53 yds rushing
2 - 21 yds receiving

USC
1 - 2 yds rushing
2 - 33 yds receiving

TOLEDO
9 - 45 yds rushing
2 - 18 yds receiving

Interesting that Brandon has two receptions for each game averaging 12 yds per reception. With the exception of the USC game where he only ran the ball once, he's getting 9 carries per game for an average of 5.4 yds per carry.

Brandon is proving to be very productive with the opportunities that have come his way this year. He is showing his versitily playing both RB and FB, and has also proven to be a valuable kick off returner with his reverse run against Navy.

I'm looking forward to his continued progress and contribution throughout the season and have a feeling he's going to have a big game against the Illini.

Against Toledo I realized why he is not the number 1 back. He lacks the killer instinct and the agressiveness to lower his shoulder and take tacklers on. Boom and Hall do a much better job finishing runs. Zoom is a much better receiver. Hopefully like you said, he can progress...I still beleive a player with his speed, and size needs to be playing more
