RB Antonio Williams (transfer to North Carolina)

Is he transferring cuz I thought he had a medical RS?
Are we sure it wasn't ESPN's much vaunted Warren Bell?

Ahh well, if he is gone... I wasn't exactly pinning my hopes on him being the one. Always appreciate him choosing Ohio State though.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he's hanging up the cleats after this season. I'm sure each year is getting more difficult to see the field. Hope he can still help in some capacity next year

Antonio Williams is already on campus getting a taste of college life in the form of spoonfuls of weights from Ohio State strength coach Mickey Marotti, but saw his stock finish higher than a future rival in terms of recruiting rankings Tuesday.

The Ohio State four-star running back commit and early enrollee is No. 128 in the final Rivals.com prospect rankings for 2016 following his two-touchdown performance in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. One-time Buckeye commitment and now Michigan early enrollee Kareem Walker fell 140 spots to No. 181, after falling short of expectations at the Under Armour All-American game Jan. 2.

Freshman Running Back Antonio Williams Has Found a Way to Stand Out

AntonioWilliamsJoeBurrow.jpg

Under normal circumstances there's a rude serving of culture shock for heralded freshmen who arrive at a football program like the one at Ohio State.

The young players who arrive in Columbus routinely were the standout of their team, league, city or even state. Many of them are in the rare-air of being rated as top players at their position nationally. They have measurables that are eye-popping and expect to do great things in college right away..

Then they get a dose of reality.

On day one they walk into a position room where EVERYBODY has that going for them. Suddenly they are no longer special. They are one of the crowd. It's a talented crowd to be sure, but they don't stand out head and shoulders over everyone. As a matter of fact, it's remarkable if they can just look everybody else squarely in the eye.

It's a world in which it's difficult to get noticed solely because you are a great athlete, because for the most part, so is everybody else. Now and then, however, players show up who have a little something special that sets them apart immediately, something that catches the eye of their teammates and the coaching staff, something that makes those people think immediately that "this guy is part of the creme de la creme."

Freshman running back Antonio Williams is one of those guys.

Williams has all the usual things you expect in running backs at Ohio State. He's fast, he's strong, and he had great stats as a high school running back. You can say that about all of the running backs that have arrived at Ohio State lately, but Williams has stood out. What has made his so different is that he arrived with a level of toughness that is impressive even in a locker room full of tough guys who suit up to play football at Ohio State.

Micky Marotti runs the Ohio State strength and conditioning program and has a reputation for instilling toughness. Toughness is a high-value trait for Marotti, one that he doesn't take for granted. If you can impress Marotti with your toughness, you've done something, and Williams has done just that.

"I have, yeah," said Marotti when asked if he has seen a edge to the way Williams has handled himself thus far at OSU.

"He’s relentless. He’s a high-effort guy and a high-character guy."

Freshman RB Antonio Williams is a 'Pleaser', But Will He Play This Year?

16-04-16-FB-0868-DH-FP.jpg

It has been a hectic last seven or eight months for Ohio State freshman running back Antonio Williams.

Back in early October as a Wisconsin verbal commitment he took his official visit to Madison and everything seemed set on him becoming a Badger.

And then the Buckeyes called.

Feeling like current OSU running back commit Kareem Walker had one foot out the door, Urban Meyer and his staff set their sights on Williams, who they had been recruiting for a while.

Eleven days after his official visit to Wisconsin, Williams decommitted from the Badgers. Three days after that he took an unofficial visit to Ohio State and committed to the Buckeyes the following day.

Then three months after that he enrolled early at OSU to participate in winter workouts.

Williams was one of just three scholarship running backs on the roster this spring, which meant that he got more reps than most freshmen who enroll early. He impressed with those reps, but there was no mistaking early on that he was indeed just a freshman.

But even with that being the case, it was Williams who made the biggest jump from the first practice to the 15th practice this spring.

"From the first day of spring ball to the last day, I would probably say Antonio Williams (made the biggest jump), because he was running around like his head was spinning the first day," running backs coach Tony Alford said. "I told him, 'God, you’re making me nervous. Slow down.' He was just running around like a chicken with his head cut off just because he was nervous.

"But he did really get better. They all improved, but you’re asking about the guy who made the most monumental jump. So I would say it’s him, but as it should be."
