Antonio Pittman

METAIRIE, La. -- When a young Antonio Pittman played pickup football in the streets of Akron, the player he sought to emulate was an undersized workhorse for the Buffalo Bills' Super Bowl squads of the 1990s.

"I used to like Thurman Thomas," Pittman recalled after an offseason training session at the New Orleans Saints' headquarters last week. "He was a back that did a lot and didn't receive a lot of credit. That's how I'd paint my career at Ohio State: Did a lot, didn't receive a lot of credit."
In his last two seasons with the Buckeyes, the 5-foot-11, 207-pound Pittman rushed for 2,564 yards and 21 touchdowns.

I have seen Antonio quoted several other times saying something similar. Seems like Tony might possibly feel a bit snubbed by Buckeye nation.

I hope not, because I certainly appreciated all he did for the us.

I could see where he might feel that way. He was playing in the shadow of Ted and Troy and they were getting most of the pub. But I for one thought he did just about as much for the team. There were a couple games that he got the O started in.
Heck it seemed like about half the posters in here wanted Beanie to start or get most of the carries. What does that tell you?
Any way Pitt was my man as far as Rb goes for the last two years.

I think Pitt picked a bad time from a hype standpoint. He emerged at the same time as the greatest QB, their fastest WR & best returner, and the best NFL draft class ever at Ohio State. Then after he established himself, the nation's best recruit arrived on campus to play RB.

I hope that someday he can put the Beanie fandom in perspective, perhaps by reflecting on the "Zwick starting? playing" talk, despite a NC run spearheaded by Mr. Krenzel.

Most of the time players are better served to steer clear of the exciteable message boards. In this case, I wish he could read all of those lamenting the lack of carries he was given against Florida.

When Pittman scored his last TD I was thinking "Aww yeah. This is Ohio State football." and began dreaming of Pitt going out with a bang by bringing us back.

But it didn't happen. And I suffer from nightmares to this day. :(

Regardless, he's had and will continue to have my full support. It's not a matter of if, but when he'll be successful in the pro's and I can't wait to seem him play.

dammit once pitt gave us some life and brung us back to 14-21 and then the defense got a 3 and out I figured we had a ball game... But no.. we come out and pass three straight times!! I think if we hammered with PIttman/Wells the next drive we put up another score.. How does everyone think the saints will use pittman?

A warm welcome: A rookie who hails from northern Ohio, you go through your second straight day of two-a-days in blistering heat. You finish it off with a few wind sprints, so then what do you do?

Well, if you're former Ohio State running back Antonio Pittman, you pick up your shoulder pads and helmet, plus veteran teammate Deuce McAllister's shoulder pads and helmet, and tote them to the bus.

"It's just part of being a rookie," said Pittman, sweat pouring down his face. "It's just part of it. I've done some singing, too."

Pittman, a fourth-round draft choice, said he's had to make two adjustments in his first three days of camp: one, to the speed and athleticism on the field; two, to the Mississippi heat and humidity.

"It's scorching out there," he said. "It doesn't get like this in Ohio."

Pittman said he didn't mind carrying McAllister's gear.

"He's been great," Pittman said. "He's helping me learn. If I ask him a question, he'll try and help. He's a good teammate."
