Like I said, right now there are hundreds, potentially over a thousand when I am done. Doing this by had with chain and shovel, well lets just say that I would like to still be able to stand and walk when I get older. The bulldozer was considered, and is tempting, but filling in all the holes is a pain in the ass. We did actually do that where the barn is going so we wouldn't have to mess with the root systems in and around the foundation.
We bough a little over 12 acres of vacant land, it was a part of a farm feild back in the mid 80's. The guy lost it to the bank, they plotted it off, the lady that bought the parcel that we have now I don't know if she had even visited it in the last 10 years or so (the parcel is only a couple hundred yards from my folks house). So, what I have been dealing with since is land that hasn't been touched for the most part since about 86. When we started, the weeds were 5-8 ft tall, scrub trees scattered everywhere, and about an acre where the trees or anywhere from 2 in in diam to 7-9 in in diam about 2-4 ft apart.
The reason I was looking to do it this way is that I could take my time and do it over the next couple of years (therefore not shortening my life). The part with all the trees is earmarked for pasture, therefore not going to get in the way of any building.
It took about the first 2 months worth of weekends to mow down the weeds, since then I have been sawing down trees, locating all the boundary pins, and marking the driveway out.
We will have to have something this summer out there for every one cook out and bonfire type stuff. Lord knows I should be well stocked on the firewood.
