The best thing is that it's not even a scarlet colored statement to make.

Anyone familiar with college football over the last decade can look at TP now and imagine a proportionate leap from Troy's JR to SR year and get big eyes.

Pryor now over Troy? I don't think so. Troy played almost flawless football against a schedule light years more difficult. And with the exception of the champ game Troy played best in the biggest games. His whole career.

This may be a silly argument because they are both great Buckeyes. But if you have any doubt, please go to YouTube and watch the Troy Smith highlights...oh I miss that guy. He had unbelievable pocket awareness and the ability to hit any guy on the field that was open. Just watch the 2006 scUM game and watch him hit like 7 different receivers in the first couple drives of the game.

I love TP, but he has quite a ways to go to ever measure up to Troy's ability to make plays and find the open guy. And the effortless throwing motion he has...hard to beat that.

Rex Kern has Troy beat. National title, conference champ all three years he started, and 27-2 as a starter. Only thing he didn't do that Troy did was win the Heisman. I'll take the national title over the Heisman...

Just my opinion, but Pryor is not in the class of Troy Smith and Rex Kern.

Terrelle had an excellent Rose Bowl performance, but quite frankly, I don't think he's passed the ball all that well against other good competition. Even this year, he did not throw the ball well against Miami, Wisconsin, Illinois, or Penn State. Going back to last season, he did not throw well against USC, Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin.. I think he was okay vs Penn State..

I don't know, at this point his passing legacy has largely been built off success against the weaker opponents on our schedule, and his excellent Rose Bowl performance (which I won't diminish, because he was outstanding).

I would like to see him really impress through the air these next three games, as two will be against strong defenses, and the other in a rivalry game.

Not saying he can't reach Troy's level, because he has a senior season to go, but at this point in time I can't put him anywhere near Troy.

Kern's ball handling skills were off the charts. Cameramen and announcers had trouble keeping up with who had the ball. Combined with that little detail you mentioned of the national title . . . .

TP is still teasing us with his patches of greatness. When/if he becomes the consistent passer with his running abilities he will become otherworldly. Yet, even now he is reaching toward unstoppable. :yow1:
And any OSU QB that is breaking all the records has to be considered the greatest ever.

Just a little note worth adding because my cousin bugs me all the time saying Terrelle's passing isn't the best...

TP is 5th in passing efficiency in the nation behind ONLY K.Moore, C.Newton, R.Stanzi & R.Mallett. I don't care who you're playing for...that's good company.

There was a certain team that Troy beat 3 years in a row and Kern only went 2-1 against that has to be brought up as much as it would like to be forgotten

The bolded part is a good point.

In 2005, Troy's Passing Efficiency was 28.9% better than the PE his opponents allowed to everyone else.

In 2006, Troy's was 29.2% better than the other QB's faced by Buckeye opponents.

Thus far in 2010, Terrelle is at 25.4%. This is VERY respectable. My DSA spreadsheets only go back to 2001, and the only QB in that time not-named-Troy-Smith to be even close is Craig Krenzel who had a 21.1% in 2002. With no running game to support him in '03 he fell off to 8.0%.


Disclaimer: The above is a bit of an oversimplification in that the starting QB is given credit for the TEAM DPE. Most starters do better than the backups (like TP this year); but the number of reps by the backups renders their contribution (or detraction) to the numbers negligible in my opinion.
