QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Mike Farrell is such a ND/Charlie Weis schill. I cannot stand him. Sorry for the rant.

Anyways, back to Terrelle. He looked great in that video, you can definetly see the improvements he's made as a passer. Why on earth any school would recruit him for WR is beyond me. The kid has the arm to play QB, all he needs is more refinement. With his size and athletic ability you are looking at something that could be very special.

He didn't really tip his hand too much, but I think it's safe to say that ND and USC will be dropped pretty soon. I think Alabama and Texas will probably get cut from his list as well.

I still think when he pairs his list down to 5 that the lucky 5 will be OSU, PSU, Michigan, WVU, and Georgia Tech.

I never really thought of WVU as a player in this, but his comments made me rethink. If I was Terrelle Pryor, I would certainly be impressed by what Pat White is doing and how that offense is run.

Speaking of Pat White/WVU, I honestly think Terrelle's skills would be put to use better in Texas', UF's, and the "Troy Smith OSU" offenses than in WVU's.

Pryor shows something that White lacks, legitimate D-1 arm strength. White has a noodle arm and most of his passes longer than 15 yards hit the turf or miss his targets by 10 yards. The kid just isn't a talented passer, but he's a great athlete with 4.4-speed. WVU also doesn't get the type of athletes at WR that schools like OSU, Texas, Florida do on a yearly basis, and a QB is only as good as his supporting cast will allow him to be.

Pryor has got the arm to become a legit all-around QB like Troy Smith and Vince Young did. He's not the one trick pony that Pat White is, so I think that is a terrible comparison to make and that going to WVU would only stunt his growth as a passer and only hurt his NFL chances.

If I were a quarterback, I wouldn't be looking at the RichRod offense to help me progress.

Everyone and his mother knows that Pat White isn't going to be a quarterback in the NFL, he's going to go as an athlete.

If Pryor wants to be an NFL quarterback, he needs to go to a school that will help him develop his skills.

Can anyone say MAC?

Kidding. I just think WVU isn't the place to polish your passing ability.

EDIT: wow, beat to the punch by a wolvereenie.

Speaking of Weis, I forgot to mention that on the same radio interview, Dokish said the Jeannette coach told him one head coach came in with such arrogance that he was surprised his head could fit through the door. He came in and announced that he was there to get a commitment from Terrelle and make his dreams come true. The Jeannette coach said he was tempted to throw him out of his office. Dokish wouldn't say who it was because the Jeannette coach asked him not to say it, but is there any doubt who it was?

I don't think Pat White went to WVU as a talented passer, so I think you're incorrectly assigning causality to WVU when it it is really a matter of White's talent (or lack thereof).

You're also overlooking the fact that before going to WVU, Rodriguez was Shaun King's coach at Tulane. If he could get King into the NFL, he ought to do just fine with a talent like Pryor.

You act as if King was molded by Rodridguez as if from clay. King went to Tulane sporting considerable statistical success. He completed 60.1% of his passes as a senior for 2,357 yards and 32 touchdowns...as a junior, he hit on 273 of 415 passes for 2,451 yards and 28 scores.
So, let's see if we have this right - the bit about Rodriguez being the consummate QB Svengali. In seven years at West Virginia he has one credible threat as an offensive weapon at QB - White, and this weapon does not have good passing statistics, is in fact more of a threat with his feet than with his arm. Is in fact most noticeably a threat when Slaton is also in the backfield.
Now such things either happen by accident or they happen by design. My take is that Rodriguez has exactly the guy he wants under center, running exactly the offensive scheme he wants run. And in that scheme the emphasis is on that running game.
Should he have wanted to reinvigorate his legend as a QB Svengali then surely there would have been other choices, either from the recruiting trail, or already in the club-house. But, he chose none of those others. He has who he wants under center, running the plays that fit his offensive scheme.
Moreover, Pryor, or any other QB prospect should be under zero misapprehension on this issue. If they want a chance to learn the full nuances of the game it is not going to happen in the offense that Rodriguez runs.

Could still work if the Jeanette coach was saying it figuratively...
