I think it's interesting that it says (in regards to WV).. He knows Josh Jenkins who is going there... Interesting..
You can sometimes get in trouble trying to read between the lines of recruiting stories, but I think that a lot of the information out there bodes very well for us at this point, for example:
-A lot of different sources now are saying that
OSU may be a slight leader for Pryor. I know these are generally somewhat anonymous reports, but it is nice that they all point towards OSU. Unlike a lot of other big recruits in years past (Anthony Davis, AJ Wallace, Justin Boren, Fred Davis, Mark Sanchez, etc.), it really doesn't seem like fans from any other team out there are overly confident or hearing especially encouraging things that seem to contradict this perspective.
-He also talks about who has been
most honest to him about depth charts, whether he can play QB, etc. Tressel is known as one of the more honest guys recruiting wise. He gets knocked by some of the fringe OSU fans for not just telling recruits whatever they want to hear (you'll start as a freshman, etc.). I'm sure Tress is telling him honestly that he'll be able to play QB. The Buckeyes under Tressel have been most successful having mobile QBs (Troy Smith and Craig Krenzel) who can throw it but also run well. In recent years, we have seen that a great defense, good O line, solid but unspectacular passing game, good RB and good running QB can win you a championship. With the exception of USC most of the recent champions have shown this (Florida with Tebow/Leak, Texas with Vince, Bucks with Krenzel).
So he knows his style can win at a place like OSU and OSU knows it too. He is also being told honestly that he is the only QB being looked at this year. And that we didn't take any QBs last year. And that he will have a decent chance to start early in his career if he can beat out Antonio Henton who could potentially be very good but shouldn't scare a guy with Pryor's abilities too much.
Then look at other schools recruiting him. ND never has running QBs. If they are telling him he has a good chance of beating out Claussen anytime soon, then that's not super true. Same with Michigan and Mallett. Florida and Texas run the right type of offense but stud sophomore QBsTebow and McCoy aren't giving up their jobs anytime soon.
-I think some of the talk about him being
friends with Jenkins is encouraging. As noted it is generally believed that Pryor likes the Buckeyes and it adds up a bit that if he is possibly a lean maybe Jenkins is too. If some of the rumors about Jenkins are true (he really likes the Bucks, talks to some of our commits almost daily, etc.), it may make sense that these guy's best chance of playing together (and with some of the other friends they have made) may be at OSU. It would add up since Brewster, Jenkins, Adams, Stoney, Goebel all seem tight and all seem to have possibly been working on getting Pryor here and starting to become friends with him as well.
