I agree with both of you though. Miller's got to rid of the ball quicker sometimes, but it's something he'll get better with time. Here's to hoping he takes a HUGE step up next season. The season's success will pretty much depend on it. He's got so much potential it's crazy, but games like today show just how raw he is.

He's a TRUE Freshman... He will learn. No need to complain about it in his thread. Troy Smith and TP both struggled with getting rid of the ball early in their careers and look how they turned out (ON THE FIELD). Both are LEGEND's in The Game, TS has his Heisman, TP has his Rose and Sugar MVP's (we all know he won it regardless of what the NCAA does)

I am not complaining about needing to get the ball our quicker as to WR's. I am talking about when it';s not there, and he is running outside. Sure sometimes its great to see him burn a few guys, but when you have 3 guys on you driving you to the sideline, it's ok to toss it out of bounds. I don't care what age he is, that is something that you should know now. I think that because he is a freakish athlete he wants to try and always burn people. It's not a matter of needing to learn how to do it, it's a matter of just doing it. Just hopefully he doesn't do it like Bauserman did all the time.

That's what True Freshman do. The college game pace is MUCH MUCH quicker than the HS game, and he's taking his lumps, and learning. Him going down as much as he does isn't at all a surprise to me. Do I like it happening? Of course not, but the last few mobile QB's that have come through Columbus struggled getting rid of the ball as well early in their careers. I wouldn't expect Braxton to be any different. Every game is a learning experience. Now, here's to hoping next week some of the passing plays can be a little more easy when he has a veteren WR to throw to. Which will hopefully create some space for Stoney to get his touches.

Because Miller can make exceptional plays, he thinks that he can make them all the time. He needs to learn to play within the system (assuming, of course, that there is a system at Ohio State). Smith and Pryor were much better at playing within the system, and that can be credited to Jim Tressel. I wonder how much more progress we would have seen from Braxton if JT were still in charge, because right now we have not seen a lot of progress from him.

Night and day, IMO. I agree with your post, and I agree that Pryor and Smith both played better within the system. Both ALSO struggled when holding on to the ball too long as well. It's frustrating, but it's to be expected.

Would have been nice to see Miller sit behind Pryor for a year, but that just isn't the case. He's already come a LONG way since the Miami and MSU games, he still has a LONG way to go. I've got faith in this kid. Once he gains more confidence in his arm, he's going to be absolutely electrifying.

Maybe Ohio State's next coach designs an offensive system to suit Miller's abilities, but right now I don't see that he has anywhere near the grasp of the passing game that Smith and Pryor had at similar points in their respective careers.

I agree, Tressel basically was our qb coach. It doesn't help the Siciliano is in the booth either.

I partly disagree about Miller not having the grasp. Troy & TP were on veteran teams & not playing with guys who are learning as he does. Your point remains that there's not a lot of improvement, though.

Also, Joe Daniels had a huge part in the development in those two.

I can't remember too much of Smith's beginning days but Pryor's grasp of the passing game was "throw jump balls into our NFL receivers and watch them make a play". Pretty sure Brax would be on on his way to throwing for 2,000 yards if he had Robo, Hartline, and Sanz to throw to.

I don't recall TP having much of a grasp of the passing game his freshman year. We even had to bring Boeckman in during the bowl game when we wanted to throw because Pryor couldn't.

Troy Smith never played as a true freshman so I don't see how that is a valid comparison.

I agree that Braxton took a step back today throwing the football. He really overshot some guys in the deep and intermediate routes.

Once again though, when he has a more established coaching staff that knows how to put together a passing attack around his strengths, and QB coach with a stronger resume I think he'll be fine. Not to mention he's playing without the team's top three WRs.

The system is a bigger problem right now than Braxton's passing ability, IMHO. The current system needs scrapped in lieu of one that is much better suited to Braxton. He definitely needs improvement, but this system is horrible. Troy Smith would struggle in this system. He lived by the quick slant. There is no such thing as a quick slant in this current system - or it just isn't ever called.
