QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

You have potential 1st/2nd rounders at WR and RB (and who knows, maybe QB?), along with proven TE and backup RBs/WRs that would laugh at the offers most of the VT team received. And the game is on the shoulders of a guy who didn't play last year?
Thomas will be double covered all night and they will sell out to stop the run. Our TEs won't be stretching the field. Even with an elite qb, who will he throw to? If braxton can't stretch the field this becomes a team that's really easy to defend. He is the only proven athlete we have that will be in a position to make them pay for doubling up Thomas and selling out against the run.

Want to double Thomas? Go ahead. Now he gets put on an island opposite the TE, bringing his safety with him-at least to the hash.

It's now 10 vs. 9, you only have one safety to help. If I'm running the offense, I put every WR who won't burn a redshirt in to run deep routes all game, these corners are playing man and will have to run their asses off all night long against 4 and 5 star caliber athletes.

Threaten the edge with jet and jet motion, Eze only has one tackle to break to take it to the house. They have a better chance of pressuring JT/CJ than getting anywhere with a double team on Thomas.

Maybe they can throw to one of the other eight four-star receivers that are available for this game. If they're doubling Thomas AND selling out to stop the run, those guys will be open.

Also, just because they might sell out to stop the run doesn't mean they'll accomplish it. This is not the same OL that played VT last year. Elliott is not the same RB he was then. The coaches went to school on the bear defense and the Buckeyes demonstrated throughout the remainder of the season that they'll gash teams until they come out of it.

No chance the double Thomas most of the night when they have one of the best corners in college football, maybe a play or two situationally. Torrence and Braxton have plenty of speed to stretch the D, they can man them but they'll get open and open big. Will they catch it is the question. I wouldn't be shocked if they are so open they drop balls.

You know this poses an interesting approach to VTech. With all the QB debate, just trot Brax out in wildcat on the opening series for no other reason than to screw with Foster. That would be awesome.

This. I kind of want them to do this, and then have ESPN on a split view showing the VT coaches scrambling across the sideline trying to figure out what to do.

Yes, I know it doesn't work like that, but the thought is absolutely hilarious. Oh, and Braxton throws it for a TD on the 1st play from scrimmage.

I pray they double Thomas all night with our depth at WR. And like has been stated, just because they try and stop the run doesn't mean they'll do it. I remember Alabama and Oregon also trying to stop the run as well... Our WR depth is crazy without even including Miller or Gibson. Just because you're proven only means that have some film, there's still a ton of talent. Thomas was also unproven last year, as was JT, Cardale, Jalin, EzE, and most of the O line...

You don't put a guy in at QB if you really think he is risking his health if he throws it deep (and he would be cold unless he spends time warming up pre-game). I would love that as an opposing D coach. Within the 10 yard line, not so much.

Aside from Michael Thomas, VT now has virtually no film on the WRs who'll be playing against them (Brown is hurt; Smith is suspended; Campbell, Clark, Dixon, Greene, and McLaurin have next to nil total PT; and Gibson is a true freshman). Nor do they have any film on our "new" H-Back at that position.

Miller can throw a pass up to about 25-30 yards downfield without much risk of injury...

McLaurin, Campbell, Clark, Samuel and Dixon are also all speedsters. I don't know that we have ever had this much speed at WR.
