QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

I want him to come back for selfish and developmental reasons, but I think he'll bolt after the beating he took last night, and I can't blame him. Even if he could improve his stock by coming back a year, should he risk injury, or just take the money that's there and then get injured while getting paid.

Kid showed a ton of heart last night, but if I were in his shoes, I'd probably be looking to get paid before I took that kind of abuse again.

It's a tough debate...has Brax ever come out and said he only wants to play QB in the NFL? Just curious. I'm wondering if he came back for his last year of college, would his ability to read the defense improve so much that he would hit that next tier in scouts minds??

College stats don't really add up to a hill of beans when it comes to whether or not a QB will succeed in the NFL. I love Braxton's game, I think he's a phenomenal talent, and I think he showed a hell of a lot of toughness last night. That said, I don't see him being any better than a 5th round pick should he come out this year and, to be honest, I wouldn't be shocked if he weren't selected at all. As well as he played last night, he showed that he still has significant room for improvement in throwing the ball.

Thank you, that was my point. And every draft board says the same as well. I hope evaluators inform him as much before he makes his decision. This year did him no favors in proving he was a more complete passer.
And Eric crouch won a heisman as much because his team was on top and he was the qb. And how was his NFL career? I wouldn't ever want to mention miller in the samec sensentence as crouch, that's an insult to miller, who I give more credit to

I agreed until you said he wasn't a more complete passer. He's not NFL ready to start, but he is certainly better than last year. If 2012 Miller plays this Clemson defense, OSU is lucky to score 14 points.

This is also why I'm confused as to why someone said that he's not a championship caliber QB. The heart is there and he's shown improvement every year, I just think he needs a more complete team. It's easy to compare him to Pryor and Smith's victories, but neither of those guys had to consistently score 40+ points to win games against good teams.

Hopefully he makes the right choice to come back and make a lot of the necessary improvements concerning touch and reads so that when he does declare he's a top 3 round pick, not someone like Smith who might fall to 5th or 6th.

I love Brax but I'm surprised there is even discussion of him leaving early. He seems a long way from being an NFL-type of passer, despite his dynamic play making abilities at the collegiate level.

Agreed. But, he's already had multiple injury scares, and is looking at playing behind a rebuilt OL. Not to mention losing Hyde may well mean more runs for him next year, and more physical pounding. I'm no NFL scout, but I think the tools are there to get drafted fairly high. Probably not round one, but in the rounds 2-3. And I wouldn't blame him for jumping. Hope he comes back, though.

I believe the discussion about him coming out early is because of recent quotes attributed to him, not his on field performance. I haven't seen anyone here or anywhere else suggest his on field performance shows him ready to come out early. I hope he comes back, continues to improve, and has a great senior season and great NFL career. But if he doesn't want to play for tOSU next year, then I hope he goes ahead and declares.

Yeah he needs to improve his decision making and learn not every pass has to be a max 10 ft in the air bullet. His last pick was a perfect example. It was going to be behind the receiver and short probably cause he was so banged up he didn't have as much as he usually has however that's one you put some arc on and drop it over the top of the linebacker who is in no mans land. Reading the blitz coming from a mile away and either leaking out away from it or throwing it away those type of things he needs to work on.

I'm no scout either, and I'd love to be wrong for Brax's sake, but I don't think there's any way he gets drafted in rounds 2-3. I think it's something like 5th round, best case. Troy Smith was a 5th rounder, and IMO he was better suited to be an NFL QB than Brax is.

In my opinion, a lot of the hits on him come from indecision on his part. He see's the field but hesitates a great deal of times to throw the ball. Instead of throwing his guys open, he tends to wait til they are open and fire it in there. This is the part where he would fail in the NFL at his current skill level and cause him to take more hits.

If he can learn to anticipate the routes and throw to spots instead of at his receivers he will get the ball out faster and take fewer hits regardless of the line he is behind. Obviously having a more experienced Oline is a great benefit but he can help himself out by recognizing the defenses and throwing guys open. When he see's those blitzes coming and throws the hot routes or quick passes, they'll never get to him. One more summer with that QB guru and another season to utilize that skill on the field could make all the difference. He can get that tutelage in the NFL but that's dependent upon a team taking a chance on him and his potential to grow into a real passer instead of just a thrower. Total crap shoot in that regard.

I think he would be lucky to be drafted in the 6th or 7th, if at all, at this point. Troy Smith was a more polished passer when he left and he was taken 174th overall, 5th round.

Cute pic, but that's a sad argument. Those stats are pretty mediocre for someone who's supposed to be a heisman candidate, let alone someone looking to get drafted in professional football. My statement was that he's not close to the level of playing qb in a professional setting. And he isn't! Stevie wonder can see that! Are you that much of a scarlet glassed homer? Braxton is still just an athlete playing qb, and its obvious to every analyst on every sports network. His passing stats were average this year, duh! You can stand with whoever you want but its common sense that Braxton is nit a qb yet ready for yhe next level, and he's still far ftom it. He played tough while injured last night, but his stat line still screams athlete and not qb, it looked like a stat line from Vince young, or Oregon's qb, who hardly ever amount to much In the nfl

Progression is a bad argument? And you talk all the time in the recruiting forum about tempering expectations, yet Braxton was "supposed" to be a Heisman candidate. Pre-season? Yeah, he was expected to be one of the front runners, but point me in the direction of the last Heisman winner that missed multiple games due to injury. This has nothing to do with being a "scarlet glassed homer". If you can't see that Braxton has progressed & still has room for growth, than I don't know what to tell you. I also stated that I believe he should come back for his Senior year, as he obviously has some things to improve on. But to say he's not close to being a QB, is laughable.
