QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

The Urb sounded irritated with Miller in the BTN pre-game interview. I think it would have been a mistake to play Miller against FAMU. He gets more competitive reps in practice so no good could come out of it. No upside with the downside of tweeking the knee and being out for the B1G opener.

I don't think Urban would do it but you think he sits Miller and gives Kenny the start Sat just to prove a point? If you are ready to go and cleared to go, you go and trust in your coach to take you out appropriately. But, no one knows your body more than you. Hope he's 95-100% for Sat because we need him if we want to be Natl contenders this year AND next year.

Urban Meyer says Braxton Miller is '90 percent' healthy, will start 'if he has a good week of practice'

Braxton Miller will start this week, if he has a good week of practice, Urban Meyer said Monday. (Marvin Fong, The Plain Dealer)

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Last Monday, Urban Meyer listed quarterback Braxton Miller as "probable." The junior did not play against Florida A&M.

This time around, five days before Ohio State will commence its Big Ten slate against Wisconsin, Meyer has tabbed Miller as "90 percent" healthy.

"Braxton, if he has a good week of practice, will start," Meyer said Monday.

The coach had hoped that the preseason Heisman Trophy candidate would suit up against the Rattlers, but Meyer said they reached a "mutual decision" for Miller to rest. Miller suffered a sprained left MCL on the Buckeyes' opening drive against San Diego State on Sept. 7. He has not played since.

"I hoped all week that we could get him in there, even if it was for a few series," Meyer said. "But it wasn't stable and it wasn't right."

Meyer said he is "much more confident" in Miller's potential to play this week, though he admitted the dual-threat quarterback might have to shake off some rust.

"That's what I was hoping to get out of the way last week," Meyer said.

Meyer: Miller 'probably will start'
Updated: September 25, 2013
By Austin Ward | ESPN.com
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State depth chart still has the top two options at quarterback bracketed together, but it appears Urban Meyer already has a pretty good idea who will be his starter.

After sitting out the last two weeks and missing almost all of the previous game with a sprained knee, Braxton Miller is slated to return to the lineup on Saturday against No. 23 Wisconsin in a critical Big Ten opener at Ohio Stadium. And the fifth-place finisher in last year's race for the Heisman Trophy is apparently poised to slide back into the starting lineup despite Meyer having enough comfort with his backup that he currently lists his starter as Miller "or" Kenny Guiton.

"I think Braxton will probably start," Meyer said after practice Wednesday. "He had a good day today, and it looks like he's pretty close to 100 percent. I just wanted to make sure running the ball was good today, and he was and Kenny is good.

"We're still working through exactly how we're going to manage the game, but they both look good."

Here is my opinion with the Kenny and Brax on the field at the same time....

Brax + Any RB is more dangerous than Kenny+Brax in the backfield as far as running the ball goes. In the passing game, I feel that Brax is just as good and most likely a better passer than Kenny. I would say that Brax vs. Guiton in the passing game is a wash. Kenny played great the last 3 games. I am not tring to downplay anything he has done, but I think that a healthy Miller would have put great stats as well against those 3 defenses. Also, it makes the most sense that if they are both on the field that Kenny would be the QB and Miller would be the RB. I don't like the idea of Kenny throwing the ball to Braxton out of the backfield. I think Hall/Wilson are better options for this than Braxton. All the talk of the offseason was about having Miller get the ball to playmamkers in order to take fewer hits in a game. Why line him up and go out to receive a pass only to get blindsided by linebackers?

The only thing that would make sense would be for some kind of throwback where Miller is the qb and gives it to Guiton and then goes on a wheel route down the sideline. I think a defense would sniff this out from a mile away. I just don't think you are going to fool anyone with these "trick plays". You are better off doing a throwback with Hall in the game in order to capitalize on the element of surprise. I think defenses will be on high alert if both are in the game. This could work as a decoy only. Put them both in, then run a fake option to Miller, then pass downfield. With limited practice time, how do you install this brand new offense?

In closing to my rambling, I think our offense already enough options without both guys in and putting Miller in a position to take more hits by either being the pitch man or catching balls out of the backfield. I am for Guiton playing if Miller struggles, I just don't think we should install a gimmick offense for the sole purpose of getting KG on the field.
