QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

So many comparisons of Braxton to Pryor. As someone said earlier, this is apples to oranges if you ask me. Two very different types of athletes. I loved Pryor's abilities and watching this season unfold, I've really started to appreciate even more how important Pryor was to the offense. But that said... I think the better comparison for Braxton is Troy Smith. Troy started out as more of a runner who was elusive if not super fast. Like Braxton, Troy had a cannon arm. I think Troy is the best comparison we have..and he turned out pretty darn good! :wink2:

I also feel Pryor walked in to a much more experienced/mature team. This team is young and the wide receivers are all freshmen or very little game experience. I actually think they are a large part of why our passing game is almost non existant. Miller has no open receivers and he is a pup himself. They should all gain valuable experience together this year and be much more productive passing next year....that's my story and I am sticking with it:tongue2:

finally watched the tape of Indiana.

Braxton's straight line speed isn't close to Pryor. Watch the ground beneath his feet when he races outside to the corner, or when he steps up and rushes for the shorter QB draw TD.

but that doesn't mean he takes a back seat to Pryor as a runner. he has good speed with great quickness and great agility. Pryor had great speed with good quickness and average agility.

Agree with all said here. Brax isn't straight line as fast, but his agility more than makes up for it. Meanwhile, Brax isn't exactly slow either. I think you've noted numerous times over the years that TP rarely, if ever, had long breakaway runs in spite of his speed...meanwhile, Brax has already had a couple because he decleats you with jukes and then still has good enough jets to go the distance sometimes. So in half a season, he's already had more breakaway runs than TP. Frankly though, Braxton's willingness to lay it on the line for us, while admirable, is something I hope he tempers a bit. It would appear that he is far and away our best option and it seems like he's taking tough shots every game.

He certainly has settled down a bit since the ugly ducklings he threw early this year and to his credit, he's looking downfield sometimes before ducking and running, but obviously that is still very much a work in progress. Still too many runs when pass plays are called. I know that some of that is on the receivers for their inability to get open, but that hasn't always been the case. Love this kids heart, but hope he channels that into film room work so that he doesn't take too much punishment.

Pryor was a MUCH better passer as Freshman.

There is a difference between being a "passer" and just throwing the ball down the field. During his freshman year Pryor threw his deep balls very high creating jump ball situations for the receivers and defenders. Ohio State's receivers were just better than the defenders that year and were able to get the balls.

As much as I am rooting against Miller, I would just like to say that he is a breath of fresh air in today's game. I've watched him a lot in the last few weeks, and really just goes about his business. He doesn't hot dog it out there. He's not over the top with his celebrations. He shows little emotion, which in the heat of battle probably calms a lot of his teammates down. Doesn't draw attention to himself.........Just seems like a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. Congrats to him on his early success.

Eh, I don't really care about straight-line speed. As you say, Brax has way better quickness an agility and, IMO, is the better overall runner. For all of Pryor's good scrambles, I rarely remember him making a guy miss in the open field the way Brax does on a weekly basis. Also, what was Pryor's longest run ever? I don't recall him ever going over 50 yds on a carry.

Pryor's biggest advantage over Miller was his strength in the pocket. The same defenders that are bringing down Miller with ease were bouncing off Pryor when getting to either of them in the pocket.

Strength in the pocket and pocket presence. It was like TP had a backup camera in his helmet. He knew (I have no idea how) exactly when the blind side rush was there and when to take off. If Braxton develops this, Holy Schnikies!
