QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Here's another off the cuff thought...

Maybe Fick remembers the division in the locker room after a mature, game manager, 17th year senior QB was benched in favor of the hot-shot true frosh superstar. Maybe he's trying to keep Braxton's ego in check for a bit.

Just sayin'...

Boeckman was an entrenched starter, played in a national championship game and was a team captain. None of those things describe Bauserman. He hadn't started a game since HS before last weekend, and probably wouldn't have been in a position to ever start a game or lead a team for the rest of his life if Pryor had kept his nose clean. I seriously doubt the QB situation has anything to do with preserving harmony in the locker room.

So maybe it's a prevention of ego.

Regardless, if you have another reason besides Coach Fick is stupid, I'm all ears.

Not saying you said or believe that, just looking for an explanation.

As soon as I'm double GPA'd, I'm banning you. With great power, comes great something.

Here's what I think is going on: I think Fickell honestly planned to get reps for Miller against Toledo. I think if we want to pass out blame for not getting him into the game, plenty of it should be headed toward the defense and special teams. The game did not go as planned, and Fickell adapted his plan to the situation.

As I explained in the game thread, I think that even when he adapts his plan on the fly, Fickell has a responsibility to find reps for Miller and somehow get him involved in the game. Not just because Miller had already had his redshirt burned, but because at worst he is the backup and needs the reps to be ready in case he is thrust into the starting role by injury or some other calamity.

I don't think I know more about football than Luke Fickell. I'm sure his knowledge is immense. When it comes to managing an organization though, his knowledge is probably not as great. That's the part that's new to him as the CEO of Ohio State football, and that's the part that I'm questioning after Saturday. I do think there was a mistake made in that regard, and I'm wondering if it will continue to be made. After all, if this team struggled to pull away enough to make it safe to play Miller against Toledo, how many more opportunities will there be unless Coach Fickell finds a way to carve them out?

Ummm, if Braxton is in Joe has to be on the bench.

Being benched permanently and letting Braxton take a few snaps over the course of the game to help the team with his athletic ability are not the same thing.

And Joe wouldn't necessarily have to be on the bench if Braxton were on the field anyways.

All I know is that it is getting tiresome to hear:

"Braxton is better than Joe" - based off of what? 2 quarters and high school games? GTFOH.

"Braxton is a GREAT threat just sitting there" - yeah? again, based off someone playing NCAA 12 on XBox? Or tape from high school? Sure he looked athletic against Akron, but so did Joe B, I'd call it a wash.

People on here are just wanting blowouts against every school so the first thing they look for is retooling an area like QB clamoring that the "next best thing is on the bench waiting"

We have no clue of Braxton's composure, playbook knowledge, or even passing abilities against a solid defense, so how can we say its better than Joe B? We can't.

If we are going to say people are the "next best thing" based off of high school ranks, remember names like Rob Rose, Conner Smith, Mo Wells, Rob Schoenhoft, Jamario Oneal, Sirjo Welch, Sabino - all guys that were highly touted out of high school that didnt do much other than special and scout team play.
