QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

FKA,
HaHa I am not offended at all. I am on the phone working and in between reading these discussions and it's has got me all fired up. My GC is going to beat me with a hammer if I don't calm down haha. Yes I do need to slow down and punctuate more... thanks. I will go back and edit but my point was ... Yes maybe your right about Troy not being kicked off the team but when the penalties do come out as being harsh then no matter what it won't be going overboard. He's going to have to live with it. Especially now after all the Clarett issues and then O'Brien and the Dukes situation and so on and so forth...
Also he not only hurt himself and his future but he hurt everyone around him. That warrants harsh penalties. Again, maybe not being kicked off the team but if it does happen then, sorry to say it, but thats life.

The Rest of the Story

I wish everything about this story was known..it took a reporter to publish the boosters name. Who hooked up Mr Baker and TS? Was it a chance meeting or did Mr.Baker contact TS, or did another member of the team, coach, staff, former team mate get them together. If we knew all the facts then maybe a just punishment can be handed out.

The big time boosters get to have 'meet and greets' with the team... hand around on the sidelines, sometimes... etc...

This is normal stuff... oddly enough.

Talk about letting the wolves in the hen house..Can any good come of this.

Happens everywhere... you know...its one of those things that's gone on since the stone age and needs to be looked at... just like the 'hostess' programs for recruits at some schools after the Colorado... and others... sex assault allegations.

There's a pretty good picture somewhere on the Planet, if you run a search for rugby groupies.

Here you go:

It's so easy for all of you to say "He knew it was wrong." And yes he did know it was against the rules. But like i said before none of us have ever been in that posistion. And he is having people tell him it's OK (such as the boosters). He knows that this stuff goes on all the time at other collages and kids never get caught. Before people want to put TS on a steak make sure this issue is addressed at all collages.

Plus for those of you who dont like what is going on with TS and are pissed Geiger is going well tuff maybe he should have done something about this problem before it started.
Could you stop rationalizing this for two seconds? No, I've never been in this situation before, but I can still tell you I wouldn't have taken the money. Smith is old enough to vote, serve in the military, etc. Geiger has been held accountable - so should Smith. I would begin a new era at OSU by getting tough - a one game suspension is not enough. The jackass knew what he was doing was wrong.

I've said this once, and I'll say it again. What Troy Smith has done to this program is not nearly as bad as the can of worms that MoC opened up, but he has given fuel to the media fire that was already blazing, and given the NCAA reason to build permanent residency in Columbus. I know that it was a simple thing, that was simply wrong. I do understand that most college kids, and humans in general, make mistakes at one point or another. I think that an example needs to be made of someone, in a hail mary attempt to bring back some respect to our program in the eyes of those who don't wear scarlet colored glasses. If you ask me Troy Smith should be removed from the team for a while for the long term scar that he has helped give our program. I am very pissed about this whole scenario, and do not believe that he should get the death penalty (banned from the team forever), but no way should he be given the honor of playing next season. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of 6-10 game suspension with him not being able to play in spring ball or fall practice. Then, if he has served his suspension honorably I would allow him to practice with the team in midseason starting at the bottom of the depth chart. The suspension would allow him time to think over what he did, and create a positive image for himself when he returned.

This would also show the public and other "stars" that OSU will not tolerate this kind of thing anymore. If you fuck up, you do not play. No more tolerance with this bullshit, these kids know right from wrong, and Troy has been around bad things more than once in his career. You've got to lay down the law, it should start with Troy.

I agree 100%....What Troy Smith did was simply unexcuseable. I have doubts about his ability to lead the OSU football team and his character. I remember when earlier this season when MOC did his interview and his allegations were out there, the media went and talked to current players and they did an interview with Troy Smith and he basically said he had not knowledge of any rule infractions or 100$ handshakes and this was AFTER he had already took money from a booster in the spring....he flat out lied and to me this is a character issue not a talent issue. I dont know if OSU can afford to have their starting quarterback be a person who is a known NCAA rule breaker. I believe in giving a kid a second chance but I think he has already had a second chance and this is his third strike.

The punishment should be more than just two games.
