QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Former OSU Star Troy Smith Pleads Not Guilty
By Ted Achladis FOX8.com Reporter
December 28, 2011

CLEVELAND?
Former Glenville High School and Ohio State University football star Troy Smith pleaded not guilty Wednesday to all charges related to a traffic stop last week, Fox 8 News reports.

Smith, who went on to play in the National Football League, was allegedly driving under suspension. Authorities also claim he committed violations regarding an open container and tinted windows. Smith pleaded not guilty to all of those charges.

Smith was arrested on Dec. 23 in Downtown Cleveland. Police tell Fox 8 News that the former Cleveland prep star was stopped for a traffic violation at approximately 9:30 p.m. Officers say that they discovered Smith had an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license. He was released from police custody early Saturday morning.

Tinted windows.... REALLY?!?! Sounds like a douchie cop just trying to tack on any and everything.

You ought to see some of the tint jobs here in Hawaii...nearly blackened out all the way around, including the windshield. That's in a locale that's sunny 330+ days a year. I can imagine cops pulling over super dark tinted cars during a winter night...how in the fuck can you see out of them?

I've never seen the front windshield blacked out. That'd be pretty crazy looking. But I can understand if the tint is too dark, but cops (around here at least) seem to pull you over regardless of the tint %.

Oh, and thanks for reminding me that it's sunny 330+ days a year in Hawaii.... Jerk.

Troy had a warrant out for him... and was violating open container laws already, I don't really think it's that unreasonable to cite him for illegal tint, especially if it was to that point that the officers couldn't see into the car when they conducted the traffic stop.

Or better yet, how can the police see into them when conducting a traffic stop?

By rolling the window down? :bonk:

I'm thinking if you have warrants out for missing your court date for driving with a suspended license - deciding to drive yet again without a valid license is a bad idea - no matter the douche level of the cop or the tint level of one's windshield.

ESPN is on holiday. No mention of Troy.

See a lot of that here in South Florida as well. I think you actually NEED tinting in areas like this due to the intense sun we see most of the year, but the windshield thing is beyond me as well.

You live in Ohio, so it is fun to rub it in every so often. :p

Cleveland cops use the tinted window trick as just cause for traffic stops in downtown area every weekend. Turns into a bunch of DUI charges, etc. Easy tickets, easy revenue so the department loves it.

It would be less of a "trick" if having too dark window tint wasn't an actual legit violation. Neighbor kid got a ticket for that. He came over to ask me about if he could get out of it, and was bitching, "I know it was a little darker than legal when I had it put on, but it doesn't look as good the regulation way. "

I just stared.

Yes but it's cheaper for you to catch a Buckeye game than for him.

And having lived in or spent significant time in 35 states (including Hawaii), I can say Ohio is in my top 3. (Arizona and Virginia being above it)
