QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Complete bull[censored]. What a joke. Alex Smith was given four years to show what he could do....and to his credit, he did. He showed us that he f'ing horrible. Troy certainly wasn't lighting things up, but he was 3-2 and showed flashes of brilliance. He just needed some more time to learn the offense and get timing down with his receivers. Looks like I can go back to ignoring the NFL again.

I'm with this guy. This is just plain dumb.

Mike Singletary and his entire staff are a joke. I used to like the guy, but holy hell. I could see if Troy was playing horribly, but he's not. Better start applying for those unemployment benefits now fellas. :shake:

I disagree with this decision but the facts are he has played pretty poorly the last couple of games.

Singletary is a joke. So is the OC who publicly complained about how Troy was limiting the number of plays he could call.

Much more like the OC was limiting Troy than the other way around.

Fucking douchebags and the NFL politics strike again. Troy isnt a world beater, but with time, they'll never remember Alex Smith was ever there.

The 49ers fail to see what every other team with a high draft pick that doesn't pan out sees. If after this long he's still bad to mediocre I don't care how many more shots you give him he's not going to get magically better and become the QB you hoped he would be when drafted. You don't resign him after this year I don't care if he's the best FA backup available because as long as he's on your team you have shown the propensity to start him over and over again in hopes he'll finally turn that corner when you should be looking for your next QB. Sure he's a nice guy and supposedly works really hard but it's best for him and the team to part ways.

What a bunch of [censored] I don't know if Troy is their QB of the future (with this move I'd say no) but I would certainly think that Alex Smith has proven on the field that he is not. Troy had a winning record as their QB, this with being very limited in the playcalling.

Alex Smith sucked when Gore was playing, the amount of suck on the field now could trigger an earthquake.

I agree. That 49ers team is such a joke that Tom Brady could have been the QB last weekend and they still would have lost to the Packers by 3 TDs. For Troy to lose the starting job after that game is ridiculous. Singletary is clueless.

This. Seriously, my only question is who is the other person in bed with Singletary in those pics that A. Smith has: a dead girl or a live boy?

I don't think you guys are seeing the big picture. I don't think the team viewed Troy as anything more than a placeholder. Not for Smith, but for Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Ryan Mallett or whoever they manage to draft in the first round.

This team needs a dynamic, young QB to be the face of the franchise. I'm really sad to say I just don't think they see Troy in this role. They're going to roll the dice with another first round draft pick given the recent success of Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, and Mark Sanchez

And that's why the 49ers will fail again. If they draft Andrew Luck or Ryan Mallett, either one will be damaged goods by the time they draft all the other pieces they need to contend, sort of like Alex Smith and David Carr.

They'd be better off running out Troy, Nate Davis, and whatever 40 year old FA they can find between now and next year while drafting a lot more talent at positions other than QB.

If they first pick a QB and don't protect him they'll be as awful over the next 8 years as they've been the previous 8.
