QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I never said Troy had a high value its that with his experience in the Raven's system he is worth more to them. If and when Troy is an UFA he can move on..but in reality being a back-up on a playoff team isn't a bad way to earn a paycheck.

For some its not about the pay-check. Its about the game and their desire to play.

This holds rings true for Troy as well.

I pray he ends up in a Browns uniform, we could use all the help we can get.

Jared from Junction City, Ore., wants to know if Troy Smith (a quarterback from Baltimore) and Barry Cofield (a defensive tackle from the Giants) are potential fits in Oakland.

Bill Williamson: I like how you are thinking here, Jared. Smith, who wants to be traded, played for new Oakland offensive coordinator Hue Jackson in Baltimore and Cofield, a likely restricted free agent, played for new Oakland defensive line coach Mike Waufle in New York. So there are natural connections. I could see Oakland trying to swing a trade for Smith and it would be worth putting him in the quarterback mix.

QB Troy Smith (5th): Already this offseason, Smith?s agent has been doing his best to make himself a nuisance in an effort to get the Ravens to trade Smith. The Ravens would probably love to accommodate him if they can get the right offer for Smith. Until then, the Ravens are likely to tender Smith with the 2nd round Tender. They can always trade him for less is they are so inclined, but giving him the Low Tender, with just 5th round compensation, might not allow them to maximize Smith?s trade value.

Ravens Interested in T.O.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh addressed a number of personnel issues in his Combine interview:

  • Most prevalent, he addressed rumors that the Ravens might be interested in Terrell Owens. ?We?re interested in T.O. We?re interested in anybody that can help our football team,? he said, admitting that he has watched film of Owens recently.
  • He said center Matt Birk fit into the offense right away and became a leader in quick order.
  • The Ravens were interested in Donte? Stallworth after he impressed in a workout. ?He put together a great workout. We put him through a grueling workout.?
  • WR Derrick Mason and the Ravens are both interested in working out a deal. The Ravens are interested in a multi-year deal, Harbaugh said.
  • He still sees QB Troy Smith as a starter in the league, but he obviously won?t be starting for the Ravens. However, they plan on retaining Smith.

Poor Troy.

What a slap in the face. He's basically good enough to start, and the thought of Troy being good on an AFC team scares them enough to keep him. What a crock.

Part of it is posturing. Part of it is that Quarterbacking in the NFL is at a premium these days.

But hell I agree (somewhat) with Harbaugh here. If you think the player is good enough to start elsewhere and you retain his rights to a certain extent, you keep him.

It would be nice to see Troy get a shot at starting somewhere, but if the Ravens think he could potentially play well against them somewhere down the road, I can fully understand their desire to keep him if they can.
