QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

So he's a FA and can pick whatever team he wants to go to....and then the Ravens either have to match that deal or they get a 5th rounder as compensation?

Correct. Any team can sign Troy to an offer sheet, which the Ravens then have the chance to match. If they choose not to match, then the Ravens receive a 5th round pick.

For a 5th round pick, I could get behind bringing Troy home to Cleveland.

....finally.

And what a freakin' coincidence. Cleveland has 3, count em' 3 - 5th rounds picks this year. Damnit the front office better be all over this one already or I'm going to be pissed.

Hey, I've always been a Troy fan, I just couldn't get on board with giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him like some folks were saying.

Didn't even realize - one of the 5th round picks we got was from the Jets for taking Braylon mcdropagain off our hands.

How convienent: we lose the scUMmer and go after the OSU product that we should have drafted when he came around the 1st time.

This is god speaking folks.

Browns still have to offer something that the Ravens wouldn't be willing to match.

However, if it's the right price, then it's an easy call to throw in the 5th round pick and bring Troy home.

(maybe...Cleveland is still a graveyard for careers).

Absolutely.

I want the Niners to look at him. He'd be a good fit there. And fuck Alex Smith.

I'd imagine he'll have plenty of interest if all that it'll take is a 5th round pick.

Troy is an intangibles type guy. Rex Ryan liked and pursued Troy b/c of the respect he earned in the lockerroom and the confidence he played with. Troy has an intangible that I think its fairly safe to say a lot of starting QB's don't have and thats players who will go the extra inch to play with/for him. I think that is what Ryan saw, and what will get the buzz going for Troy in the market.

He isn't a guy who will light up the practice field (he didn't in Baltimore). He isn't going to wow you with his measurables (barely 6 foot, 4.6-7 40, nice arm though). But put him under the lights and good things will happen. He's smart with the football, his teammates play hard for him, and hes a great locker room guy. Every year the reports have been the same....plays average-well in mini-camp and pre-season, looks like a starter in game opportunities.

Cleveland would just be idiotic not to pursue him. This is a bad team, and you're instantly rejuevanting a fan-base. Plus I think he'd just straight up win a QB battle over Quinn. Brady Quinn isn't Joe Flacco. Brady Quinn isn't even Alex Smith I don't think...

I think Quinn might be Joan Crawford.

Be that as it may, he's got a better arm than Troy and just might be the better QB.

Been a Browns' fan since the days of the white leather helmets and Marion Motley, in short, like forever, but I don't want to see Troy stuck with this franchise right now playing behind an absolute sieve of an offensive line.

Did you really just say Captain Checkdown has a better arm than Troy? Troy has a big arm, not ideal size. Brady Quinn has ideal size, but can't get the ball downfield or to the sidelines.

And the offesnive line hasn't really been the problem. It's playmakers at the skill positions and more depth on defense.

Obviously entitiled to your opinion, but I think I'm on the other side of the fence on that entire post...
