QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

In a deep draft I cannot see any team giving away a 3rd rounder for a player with very limited field experience and who himself was only a 5th round pick.

I love Troy, but his perceived value is not that high.

Matt Schaub's perceived value was massive, and he was Vick's backup. According to Wikipedia, he was acquired for two second round picks.

I think Troy has done (as a backup) what Matt did (as a backup). I can definitely see a big trade for Troy.

No way Baltimore gets two second rounders for Troy. Schaub was thought pretty highly of throughout his time in Atlanta as a backup. He'd been touted as a potential starter for a couple years before he was traded from what I remember.

Not the same hype for Troy. Schaub has a higher ceiling too, IMO. I feel like a Troy hater. I love the dude, I just don't love him as much as an NFL QB as others I guess. :p

There's no way TS can bring that kind of demand.

True, but there certainly are some NFL teams out there with some real QB problems who might be willing to take a shot at a guy who's been patiently waiting his turn while he's learned the pro game.

Two second-rounders could probably get one of the QBs from the Eagles, and I'd imagine they all have higher values than Troy.

Good thing this upcoming draft isn't too deep then.

I disagree wholeheartedly. But this thread is about Troy.

You have a point regarding Schaub. He did command 2 2nd rounders. But he was an original 3rd rounder (To Troy's 5th) and he's 6'5". (To Troy's 6'0") Schaub is viewed as much more of a pro-typical NFL QB. Not sure about arm strength. It's probably a push.

Statistic wise it's a bit of a wash. In 3 years as a Falcon Schaub was 84/161 1033yds 6 TDs 6 INTs whereas Troy in 3 years is 48/89 558 3TDs 1 INT.

Perhaps I was a bit too hasty earlier. I'm still not convinced he goes for a 3rd, but if I was wrong it certainly wouldn't be the 1st time.

I can absolutely see a team giving up a 3rd rounder for Troy. Yeah, he was a 5th round pick, but I think his value has increased greatly since that draft with his partial on-field success when he's played, and the fact that he's had 3 years of experience in the NFL and has been a contender for a starting position at points in his career.

This is almost how I feel. At the least your getting a quality backup. Somebody who can come in and run the offense and be successful if he (god forbid) doesn't end up starting.

However like I said, I doubt it would take a 3rd round pick to get Troy, toss them a 4th and I'm sure the ratbirds would be all smiles.

Bottom line, the Browns are interested in a late round QB this draft. Why not take one who has some NFL experience and true leadership abilities? His teamates love him and that's a big peice of being an NFL QB - gaining your players trust and respect. Troy Smith commands both.

Many said he would never be a starting QB at tOSU - and look, not only does he start, he wins a Heisman, goes undefeated against scUM and grows to be one of the very best (if not the best) we've had at the QB position.

He's overcome large obstacles before, he's in the NFL now, he's worked on his mechanics, delivery and realese. Give him the opportunity to start and I think he could make a very positive impact.

I think the only coach who would have given up a lot for Troy would have been Rex Ryan. He seemed interested in acquiring Troy before they drafted Sanchez and he actually got to see Trpy in practice and knows what he's all about. I think a 3rd would easily net Troy.

Troy's biggest hurdle is his best attributes are intangibles. Teammates love him and want to play for him, his has a certain presence in the huddle and on the field, but he is still 6'0, hasn't shown a ton of promise although he's put together some nice presason games.

I think a fourth would be a fair trade and Baltimore would consider it, especially with Jon Beck as their current third string QB.

The other issue comes from Troy being a very sub-par pracice QB. Throughout his NFL career, he has been very underwhelming in pracice sessions. Tha goes back to his intangibles and feel for live game action. But it will be tough for Troy to win any straight-up QB battles when he routinely gets outperformed in practice. Troy has to make magic on the field during preseason games and any live action...

Drew Brees - New Orleans Saints - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Troy Smith - Baltimore Ravens - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Drew Brees: 6'0" , 209 lb.

Troy Smith: 6'0" , 215 lb.

If its good enough for a Super Bowl MVP quarterback, i'm sure Troy can make it work out just fine.

In fifty years, Troy Smith will be remembered for his Heisman, his performances against TSUN, and most importantly for the services he rendered to underprivileged kids in Cleveland.

Put this one in the locker because I will be well and truly pushing up daisies. He's going to make Ted Ginn Sr look like an amateur and that will take some doing!

So, I just want him to get out of Baltimore to a team that will give him a chance. I'd like him to be remembered for his time in the pros too.

I would love to see Troy down here as a Dolphin.

He could be a threat in this offense, even if Henne keeps his starting role and Troy is the Wildcat or the Running QB that is sometimes used in short yardage, ala Ronnie Brown but with a real threat of an arm.

I don't think this will ever happen or even be talked about, but the Dolphins, in my mind, would be best served trading Pat White for Troy, if the Ravens would take White. I think Pat White is going to end up as a slot WR buried deep in the depth chart because he is just not that good of a QB (but I would expect nothing less of a fine DickRod product :wink2:).

Anyway, that is just my opinion and nothing more. I just hope Troy gets a shot somewhere soon.
