Kim Kardashian and Troy Smith party at the Barley House for Haiti Earthquake Relief Benefit
By Special to The Plain Dealer
January 22, 2010
Reality television star Kim Kardashian's first cocktail at the Barley House bar in Downtown Cleveland on Jan. 21 was a rum drink called a Haitian dream. The libation came courtesy of an anonymous fan who donated $100 to the Red Cross' Haitian relief fund for the privilege. More than 500 excited fans gathered at the Barley House in the Warehouse District to get a glimpse of Kardashian, star of the E! network's reality series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," -- and help the American Red Cross' Haitian relief effort.
Kardashian and Baltimore Ravens quarterback and Cleveland native Troy Smith, graciously posed for paparazzi and addressed the crowd about their fundraising efforts for Haiti before retreating to a VIP area of the club. The couple's entourage, including boxer Kelly Pavlik and football player Ted Ginn Jr., arrived promptly following a Cavaliers victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Barley House spokesman Brian Day said the bar's employees donated their time for the night and guests paid from $25 to $75 for admission. Day wouldn't speculate on how much money was raised for the Haitian relief effort.
I think we should get Troy Smith to be our Qb, please!
Troy is a proven winner and leader! Joe Flacco is the franchise in B' More its only right....I watched the guy sit behind Justin Zwick.....
Troy can come in and compete with the guys we have and the BEST man will win the job!
In the national championship vs Fla u saw his best wr go down with and injury and an overweight offensiveline that had too much time off..
Coach Gailey would make him so dangerous! He's great I promise u! Something like never seen before!!!!
Is there a market for Troy Smith?

I?m curious about Ravens QB Troy Smith ? the former Heisman winner from Ohio State.
We know he isn?t going to get an opportunity in Baltimore behind Joe Flacco, but is there a market out there for a young, yet unproven, quarterback? I think Smith has some upside, as he?s athletic and ? like most non-starting QBs in the NFL ? is just looking for some work.
His agent, Ralph Cindrich, has lobbied for a trade, according to the NFP?s Aaron Wilson. But, don?t read too much into that, as Cindrich is just doing his job, trying to find a good situation for his client. You expect that as a player.
Now, one of Smith?s former Buckeye teammates ? Bills safety Donte Whitner ? has voiced his own opinion on bringing him to quarterback-starved Buffalo ? a team that needs someone under center in Chan Gailey?s new offense.

Could Ravens QB Troy Smith be on the move?
Whitner wrote via Twitter, ?Troy can come compete with the guys we have and the BEST man will win the job. Coach Gailey would make him so dangerous.?
I like when players stand up for the guys they played with in college. I did it when I was still playing, and I do it now in my own writing whenever I am discussing an Iowa Hawkeye. It is only natural to expect that from Whitner, and I know from playing with Donte in Buffalo that he is a big fan of Smith?s game.
I happen to like the idea of the Bills going after Eagles QB Michael Vick ? a player that could bring some excitement and a strong arm to western New York. But, outside of Whitner's claims, the questions still remain about Smith.
Can he play ? and produce ? every Sunday in the NFL? And, if a team were to make a play for Smith, what would his value be?
The people I talked to today in the league and who cover the Ravens think there isn?t a ton of value for Smith right now and that you may be able to get a mid-rounder for him.
But, beyond that, does Smith have the arm to throw the ball at Ralph Wilson Stadium in November or December ? or even September with the unpredictable weather in Buffalo?
The answer I heard today is that Smith does. He can drop back and deliver the football up north.
Troy Smith wants to play for the Browns
Posted by Mike Florio on January 30, 2010
Quarterback Troy Smith currently plays for the franchise that used to be the Cleveland Browns. (Cue the Browns fans either who insist that the Ravens were never the Browns or who get pissed at us for mentioning it.) Now, Smith wants to play for the franchise that currently is the Cleveland Browns.
Smith made his preferences known in a recent interview with Mark "Munch" Bishop of ESPN Radio's Cleveland affiliate.
"There is no doubt about it," Smith said regarding his desire to play for the Browns. "It has always been a childhood dream of mine. It's funny how we always talk about Cleveland. That's the first thing that comes to mind with anything I do whether I get a chance to come home and be a part of that organization or not. You know, I would love to get that chance if that opportunity comes up, but the political and right thing to say in this situation is that I would love to be anywhere that would give me a chance. But, without a doubt, there would be no second guessing in my mind if I could come back home and be a part of something that I love."
NO TRADE DISCUSSIONS: Newsome denied receiving a trade request from backup quarterback Troy Smith?s agent.
Smith?s agent, Ralph Cindrich, wrote on his Twitter account following the Ravens? loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that the former Heisman Trophy winner wants a change of scenery.
"Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio State alum, native + Heisman winner wants playing time," Cindrich wrote. "Ravens notified. Will seek trade after play offs, SB run."
However, Newsome said that request was news to him.
"I have not heard from his agent," Newsome said. "I know his agent personally. I have not heard that."
Smith?s friend, safety Donte? Whitner, recently lobbied for Smith to play for the Buffalo Bills. And Smith said recently that he dreams of playing for his hometown Cleveland Browns.
It?s believed that Smith has little, if any, trade value. Nonetheless, Newsome said he?ll listen should any team decide to dial his number.
"When it comes to trading any player, I think we?re open to it," Newsome said. "We?re open to making our football team better. If some team calls us and is willing to make us an offer for basically any player, we?ll sit there and listen to it and we?ll talk about it. And if there?s an opportunity for us to improve our team by trading away a player that will allow us to get another player, then we?ll do it."

Wilson: Troy Smith's agent said he definitely made trade request to Ravens
Agent insists he spoke with Ravens about backup quarterback Aaron Wilson
February 05, 2010
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Troy Smith's agent is adamant that he did request a trade for the former Heisman Trophy winner following the team's December loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Troy SmithAPBaltimore Ravens backup quarterback Troy Smith's agent wrote in an e-mail that he definitely requested a trade.
Agent Ralph Cindrich, who represents the former Ohio State star, emphasized that he definitely contacted the Ravens.
Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome stated Wednesday that he hadn't received a trade request from Cindrich.
Cindrich said he left messages for Newsome and wound up speaking directly with Ravens vice president of football administration Pat Moriarty a week or two later.
"Ozzie was called and message was left followed by call and good conversation with Pat," Cindrich wrote in an e-mail to National Football Post. "How many calls does Ozzie return during season? Asked if I should get to Ozzie, answer from Pat no. You talk to Pat, message gets to Ozzie.
"I gave Pat heads up I needed to get word out. I am more than 90 percent sure that Ozzie was called about Troy wanting a trade."
During the Ravens' state of the team press conference, Newsome said he never heard directly from Cindrich regarding Smith.
?I have not heard from his agent,? Newsome said. ?And I know who his agent is personally, so I have not heard that.?
When that comment was relayed to Cindrich, he issued the following reply:
"In a strict sense, Ozzie is correct but he was called and message left. Ozzie is a busy guy during the season. I don't know if I ever spoke with him during the season and I had a few good players there. Then I called, left a message with Pat Moriarty, and he called back after a week or two.
