Smith did show some heart today, but out of 7 posessions in the first half, there 5 three and outs. They doubled us up on T.O.P in the first half and we had a few 3rd and 2s or 3s where he could've stepped up and tucked it for a couple yards.
The last drive of the first half included a dropped snap out of the shotgun that he recovered and threw away and a sack.
First half summary: Zero urgency.
2nd half,
1st series: Lyons helmet bounce
2nd series: 3 & out. Delay of game, 2 sacks.
3rd series: This is when Pittman got involved and really sparked the offense, 3rd down shot to Lyons was very good and the TD pass there was good to Holmes.
4th Series: Smith Keeper for 3rd and 12 first down was not probable, but I was very happy with the result. Roy hall on the big play was good and only if Roy had better wheels we'd've tied it right there, but instead, we go into the 4th quarter and we lock onto Holmes again, rather than hitting the wide open Ginn in the other corner (according to karsatos)- INT, Hickman (no relation to me)
5th series Ginn's reverse--- oh--- if he could've housed it... late pitch and bad stuff
6th series: TD Smith Keeper. Didn't think he would get it, but showed some guts.
7th series: Ginn lets ball slip through and that's all she wrote.
He kept getting shots to be a hero. My personal feeling is that I thought Zwick showed more in the late drive vs Marshall and 4th quarter vs Nwest. The Holmes drop in OT was uncharacteristic and unfortunate, I'm still lamenting that- but anyway- who cares- we just lost to Purdon't and will be lucky to stop Henne to anybody that is not being covered by Youboty, and Hart off tackle next week. I feel Zwick will get more reps this week and will be given an opportunity if Smith can't find the open receivers with the time Michigan lets QBs have in the pocket. Their ends are good and the CBs seem pretty good.
