my point is that EVERYTHING WAS ZWICKS FAULT....hell a lineman farted and it was zwicks fault...

now a different standard is being applied.....that was lyons fault, that was so and so's fault.....

there was none of that with zwick....thats my point.....
It's called hiprocracy...

While that is true, we should of won this game... two turnovers inside the red zone are unacceptiable... and if those don't happen, I think we have a different ball game.

Damn I am pissed off right now.
4 turnovers is unacceptable! you can only ask the defense for so much. if we can't score more than 17 points with our offense we never deserve to win another game. thats a disgrace. you can't ask that defense for anymore than we got. 3 starting db's down against what is referred to as basketball on grass. holding them to 24 is excellent. not being able to score more than 24 is sickening.

almost all of smiths passes are late. he throws atleast 3 "should have been picks" per game and always overthrows the deep balls. not saying he should be replaced. but i don't think we should be all to surprised that we lost today.

DiHard - is there a sarcasm emoticon I see in your posts that others just don't get translated on their system?

For those with altered vision Troy's mistakes today are equivalent to Zwicks mistakes in earlier games (First time he gave up the ball though). Troy still added more with running plays than Zwick typically brought.

zwick also averaged 100 more yrds per game passing. which is more than smith adds with his feet.

his point is simple. everything that happened to tOSU was zwicks fault. our running game (or lack there of) was zwicks fault. every pick was zwicks fault. zwick getting sacked was zwicks fault.

smith rockets balls to guys 5 yrds away but it isn't his fault, the wr should have caught it. he falls down and pitches the ball BEHIND the rb with 2 guys literally on top of him. thats not smiths fault, the rb should have handled the pitch. sacks are all the lines fault. all the incompletions are the wr's faults. the horribly overthrown deep balls are not smiths fault. he throws to the wrong side of receivers and has no ability to properly lead them on deep balls. no one seems to see the bad reads and bad decisions smith makes.

holmes was atleast 5 steps ahead of his coverage on the td catch. you can afford to put some air under passes like that...

im not saying smith should be pulled and zwick should start. in fact, at this point i think it would be a mistake to do so. we can't radically change our offensive strategy yet again less than a week before this coming weekend. but it absolutely sickens me to see people stand up for smith whenever he fucks up when they were ready to lynch zwick for doing the exact same things.

smith throws a good spiral. that is literally the only positive i have seen from him thus far. he has not proven to me in anyway shape and or form that he can lead this team. we are very clearly seeing why smith was never given a real shot at leading this team and why it took an injury to zwick for him to get a chance. i truely hoped he would show us something and end this qb controversy. sadly he has only fanned the flames.

Good points all. And like you I don't like a loss.

However, I believe the underlying reason for this loss was the absence of Fox and the lack of Salley.

Fox is the closest thing we have to a shut down corner.
Salley is our hardest hitting Safety.

Tressel, Snyder et al kept them out -- against one of the more potent passing attacks in the B10. That was a gamble, one they lost.

Why keep them out?

So they would be healthy for The Game.

I know our biggest problem is we cannot run the ball consistently, but I'm beginning to wonder if Zwick or Smith is our answer at QB. A friend of mine has seen Boeckman play in High School and told me Zwick or Smith isn't near as good as he is. I know if our OL play was better it would help, but I see a lot of mis-reads during the game. The one today when Ginn had a LB on him and we didn't even throw it his way. What happened when Hawk was covering Stubblefield...they threw it to Stubblefield. I might be wrong here but I'm just wondering if Boeckman will be our best option at QB. We will not know this year, but I sure hope whoever it is we can right the ship.

Smith did show some heart today, but out of 7 posessions in the first half, there 5 three and outs. They doubled us up on T.O.P in the first half and we had a few 3rd and 2s or 3s where he could've stepped up and tucked it for a couple yards.

The last drive of the first half included a dropped snap out of the shotgun that he recovered and threw away and a sack.

First half summary: Zero urgency.

2nd half,

1st series: Lyons helmet bounce
2nd series: 3 & out. Delay of game, 2 sacks.
3rd series: This is when Pittman got involved and really sparked the offense, 3rd down shot to Lyons was very good and the TD pass there was good to Holmes.
4th Series: Smith Keeper for 3rd and 12 first down was not probable, but I was very happy with the result. Roy hall on the big play was good and only if Roy had better wheels we'd've tied it right there, but instead, we go into the 4th quarter and we lock onto Holmes again, rather than hitting the wide open Ginn in the other corner (according to karsatos)- INT, Hickman (no relation to me)
5th series Ginn's reverse--- oh--- if he could've housed it... late pitch and bad stuff
6th series: TD Smith Keeper. Didn't think he would get it, but showed some guts.
7th series: Ginn lets ball slip through and that's all she wrote.

He kept getting shots to be a hero. My personal feeling is that I thought Zwick showed more in the late drive vs Marshall and 4th quarter vs Nwest. The Holmes drop in OT was uncharacteristic and unfortunate, I'm still lamenting that- but anyway- who cares- we just lost to Purdon't and will be lucky to stop Henne to anybody that is not being covered by Youboty, and Hart off tackle next week. I feel Zwick will get more reps this week and will be given an opportunity if Smith can't find the open receivers with the time Michigan lets QBs have in the pocket. Their ends are good and the CBs seem pretty good.

Seriously I know pretty much all your posts are directed at me, and thats fine whatever you want (lets here you dumb ass remarks dihard). I came on here I stated smith had things he had to work on.... Oh yeah and with you SO and SO response Dihard you're starting to sound like our long time buddy MoC. Seriously, how can you guys sit here and say oh how can you expect a reciever to catch a ball that fast? News Flash guys if these boys wanna make it in the NFL they have to make those catches. Now I realize Smith has a gun and sometimes he needs to take a bit off, but he doesn't and there's nothing we can do about it. These kids see Smith in practice often enough to were those catches should be made. I counted fuck'n 5 drops in this game 2 of which went for INT's. Now Smith was totally WRONG for throwing that INT, and also pitching the ball in the redzone so its not like I'm saying Smith again did nothing wrong. However what you guys are saying is absolutly out in Right field??? Also Zwick does not average 100 more yards passing...... they showed it today and it was a 40 yard difference so there's not much difference in who really plays. Honestly yes I kinda see that both Zwick/Smith I don't think are our answers, and next year with Boeckman coming to the plate I think we need to see what he's all about also. While I've defended Smith for the past 3 weeks I still think he played a decent game, and his game was definatly good enough to get us in position to win the game. Again I just can't stress enough that you guys have to admitt that the recievers have to hold on to these balls. Just like Troy needs to keep it instead of pitching the ball etc, etc....Unexcuseable........

IMO- Troy didn't seem too bad physically...but mentally he was abominable.. he appeared totally confused and even more tentative than usual... I can imagine that is partly because of the short leash he is on... but partly because his head wasn't there today... key mistakes at the goal line were atrocious... and validate that he was having severe brain farts...

Balls to Lyons and Ginn HAVE to be caught... don't care what the speed is (and I didn't think these were rocket shots)... when you play at this level, the ball should not hit you in the face mask... altho they are freshmen...

damn.....blaming the receivers is a constant of yours.....

you would make a great leader....in iran....

nobody is slamming smith.....i think we are just saying there is really no difference between the two.....they both have good and bad...

Very good points Nj... The catches should be made, and Troy I thought didn't really seem himself today either. Also he was on the road so that also probably figures in as well. Hopefully Troy makes improvements because of these experiences.
