I haven't watched a replay of the game yet but from recall that was a horribly thrown ball. Holmes was wide open from a busted coverage and TS just flat missed him. So far I would say gameplans should focus on Smiths strong arm on the slants to Holmes and Ginn. Much like SB, CK and JZ he seems to have trouble with the deep ball.

I put some numbers and talked about TS specifically in the "Improvement" thread but if you look at his numbers they aren't Pac-10 ish but the completion % and TD/INT ratio are pretty solid.

The thing I noticed yesterday, in my first chance to see TS for more than a series or two, was how quickly the ball gets to the receivers. It's out of his hand and it's right there. I don't remember seeing that with JZ. My guess is that the difference in their throwing styles takes some getting used to. Yes, obviously if you're an OSU receiver you ought to be able to catch whomever is throwing, but the spin on the ball and it's velocity are different. No surprise that TG is comfortable catching from Troy (and TS throwing to him, for that matter, as they grew up playing together). When Santonio and TS really get their timing and games on the same page, it will be something to behold. I like what I've seen from TS. He's turning into a leader as we watch.

he is learning on the go...

I think Troy has some tools, he obviously can run it and does well throwing the out and to the flats....he will improve with the deep ball....lets not forget he hadnt thrown one pass in the game and then they call a deep pass, let the kid get in the flow, give him some easy passes and then go deep, it makes me wonder if Tressel has to much on his plate. Most coordinators always give the young qbs some easy throws to get into the game, especially his first game on the road.

you love gett'n on me don't you Dihard? I'm critical of Troy Smith just like everyone but I'll be damned if I'm going to come on these boards and see someone like you saying dumb shit pretty much trying to spark something. Now yeah some of the stuff you say is hilarious man, but you often have no reason to say the things you say. Now I have said troy has alot to work on, but I don't think he's nearly as bad as you say and when I read someone like you posting something as stupid as you do. Well then of course I'm going to have alittle input. So please stop with the bashing/make'n fun of other posters for their opinions and thoughts. oh yeah it was a drop by holmes/ and Gonzo I went back and watched the tape.........

It's hard to say whether Holmes is playing well or not. All receivers depend on their QB's to help them play. Smith is clearly looking at Ginn more than Zwick did, and I think that is hurting Holmes production more than anything else.
First, thats the coaches purposely telling and scheming to get the ball to Ginn. Second, Santonio has dropped a lot of balls. That doesnt do much for the confidence of the qb to throw your way.

I think that we as fans would be giddy with the play of Smith if this were week three. For Troy, it basically is....

your exactly right smithlabs, troy smith and Ginn have chemistry and its chemistry that has been going on since high school. smith knows how to hit ginn in full stride and everybody knows when ginn hits full speed its time to say sippin on ginn and juice because he may take it to the house

It's bad when utter adulation has overridden the sensibility neuron. It's said that too much sneezing actually kills more brain cells than the first 500 or so acid trips (I might be exaggerating). At least that's what I tell my wife who sneezes all the time and seems to miss the common-sense bus somewhat often.
