QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

just went back and watched again.....heres the comments....

"troy smith made that harder than it should have been....he should have just laid that ball out....and it would have been a touchdown..."

could holmes have caught it....yes....but to say he SHOULD have is flat out reediculous...

When it came to the last drive and the handcuffs were off I told my son this was where we find out what Troy Smith is all about. He did the job. I thought he played well all game and very well when it counted. He also made some pretty good third down plays.

The only clear drop I saw was by a MSU linebacker.

I agree he pulls it down pretty quick and if that doesn't improve it would be a real problem. But this was only his third game.

He damn near lit it up.

it touched his hands has to be the most stupid comment in the history of football.....
How about "Catch the ball at it's highest point". That's usually possible if you can get 15 or 20 feet in the air.

And yeah, I know what they mean. Please don't try to explain it on the behalf of the TV announcers.

ok dihard I can agree with that....

Yeah I mean it couldv'e been better thrown, but it also couldv'e been caught.... Alittle bit of both on the play. I really wouldv'e liked to see Holmes dive on the play, becuase if he does that I believe he wouldv'e caught it.

Good point about the linebacker from MSU dropping the ball. Horrible throw, and I'm glad it didn't cost us anything...

Smith is doing much better than a lot of people thought he would, myself included. I think the fact that he had 21 pass attempts is great- maybe Tressel is getting comfortable with Smith and allowing him to throw more. Which, obviously, gets him the real game experience making throws.

I do agree with everyone else who has said that he should think a bit more before running. When the O-line gets better, maybe that will stop.

yes, if it hits you in the hands no matter what its your fault for not catching it. BUT, that was a horribly thrown ball to a wide open holmes. he had 3 or 4 steps on the cb and you throw it to the wrong shoulder???

understand that i don't dislike ts. but tressel is working him right back into a qb controversy. you replace ted ginn jr with a mortal man today and we loose this game in a big way. what we are doing on offense is embarrasing. its almost sad that we won this game because it overshadows the fact that our offense was flat out dominated yet again this week. in 4 quarters against msu i don't think we had a single drive on offense. with the amount of talent we have its really frustrating to see this week in and week out.

I think Tress letting him throw from the endzone shows that Smith is gaining the confidence of the staff. 21 attempts plus how many he pulled down a little prematurely. The 2nd half he was much more patient. Stupid penalties, again, killed a few drives.

Agreed that its frustrating, but we won't see it clear up till we get an OC..... It actually seems like this when we get the ball

Sometimes we'll actually chew up 5-6 minutes of clock, however we don't move the ball but 30 yards??? We take our sweet time getting up to the line every play, and more than a couple times resulted in False starts, and delay of games. We Kill ourselves with penalties. When it seems we have momentum I'd like to see us get to the line quicker and call a play quicker giving the defense less time to do what it needs.....

I won't say anything that hasn't been said before. When Tressel lets him play, he does really well and wins ball games. As you guys have already pointed out, he tucks the ball too much--probably just assuming he has to do all of the work.

I go back and forth on Smith a little bit. First, he obviously needs to throw the ball more. In the first half, he seemed very unconfident, didn't want to throw the ball, and threw some poor passes (the deep ball to Smith, the should have been pick six, and another crappy pass). However, he did get more comfortable as the game went on, he kept his eyes up the field more, and he made more plays. I would rather Smith pull the ball down and run than throw and INT.

So, in the end, Smith may be able to flourish. He just needs to get a bit better on his reads and look at his other receiving options, and he will start throwing for some big time yardage. He throws the ball on a rope, and that can lead to some big plays from Holmes and Ginn. He just needs to get some more experience.
