QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

The Baltimore Ravens demonstrated their lack of faith in former Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith at the draft.

The Ravens were in talks with St. Louis for the No. 2 overall pick so they could draft Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan but lost out. They then traded for the No. 18 pick, took Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco and pronounced him the team's "quarterback of the future."

With Steve McNair retiring, coach John Harbaugh said there will be an open competition among Flacco, veteran Kyle Boller and Smith, a second-year pro. But it seems clear that Smith isn't likely to have much time at No. 1, even if he wins the job.

First-year offensive coordinator Cam Cameron called Flacco "the perfect fit for what we do." If the Ravens felt that way about Smith, you'd think they wouldn't have tried so hard to use their first pick on a quarterback.

Young QB has a QB picked by his team in the first round, before he was really given a chance to perform, and the new first round guy is suddenly the "quarterback of the future." Said Young QB takes over the QB reigns from previous piece of garbage veteran QB before rookie QB is ready to play. Young QB shines and continues to have a successful career with or without the team that showed so much faith in him that they drafted a first rounder to be their "quarterback of the future."

I swear that I've heard this story before, but just can't place it. :tongue2:

Well to be honest, It's not like he hasn't been in this situation before. He made tOSU totally forget the had the #1 recruit in the nation. Troy is a prideful brother, you better believe he is fuming over this and is going force them to either play him or trade him with his performance.

Why anyone still gives a fuck what Cam Cameron thinks is a fucking mystery to me.

I'm surprised that Cam Cameron made that statement given the fact that he has seen Troy Smith and Kyle Boller in person on probably 2 occasions since he took over the offense for baltimore.

I know that Flacco has a big arm and is a big guy.....but you gotta beleive that jumping from 1AA to the NFL isn't going to be the easiest transition. Look at guys like Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Leinhart, etc....they came from big time programs with tons of pressure weekin and week out. They played great competition almost every Saturday.......and they struggled in the first season. The biggest crowd this guy has played in front of is probably 15,000.

Flacco might be their QB of the future, but it won't be until at least 2010 in my opinion....which gives TS the chance to win the hearts and minds of those in baltimore.
