QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Who Will Start Qb For The Ravens In The '08-'09 Season? - Baltimore Ravens Official Message Board[/quote]
What's the old cliche about the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

That board is full of people that want to give Boller the chance because he's got the most experience, and they think this year he might actually not make the same mistakes he's been making for the past several ... uh -- his whole career.

On the other hand, you've got a vocal group that thinks Flacco is the answer, despite the fact that nobody outside of maybe Flacco's coaches, the hardcore CFB fans that watched the Delaware/App St championship game last year, and Mel Kiper have ever seen him even attempt a pass.

Unless Smith and/or Boller get injured...Flacco isn't going to see the field until week 10 at the earliest. Being a 1AA quarterback is just too steep of a hill to climb to be the opening day starter.

If the Ravens start Boller, he will screw up at some point giving TS an opportunity to start several games this year. I still think Smith will beat out Boller for the starting gig.

Big things expected from small-school product Flacco
Smith won the 2006 Heisman Trophy, but the fact he stands only 6-0 is a drawback because he is more effective on rollout plays that don't have a huge place in the Ravens' scheme. As Cameron points out, with the inclement weather found in all four AFC North cities, it is no coincidence that Roethlisberger, Cincinnati's Carson Palmer, and Cleveland's Derek Anderson are towering athletes with large hands.
Great fact-checking there, Carucci. :roll1: Look at Troy's hands in the pic I posted and then look at Flacco's and Boller's.

Here's another one.

I think he's gone. Too many changes there. Which could actually help him.
Uh, you came up with this assumption how? All reports have him in the thick of things of the competition for the starting job. His competition is a FCS rookie QB and a guy who has never done squat in the league other than fail repeatedly. Boller lost his biggest supporter (Billick) and Flacco is a project. He's far from "gone".

Sounds like the Ravens players are impressed with Flacco. He has a great practice yesterday, including a big-time throw that reminded Derrick Mason of Carson Palmer.

I hope Troy gets a shot, but yet again, I think he is going to fall into the politics of the "save my ass routine". Last year Billick only inserted Troy after the season was lost, and used the move to say, Boller lost us the season...I need a new QB.

This year, Harbaugh doesn't want to fail out of the gates, and playing a rookie QB early is a built in excuse to lose. You just point the finger at growing pains. Theres no way Boller gets a long leash, b/c Boller has been in the league for a while and a lack of sucess can be blamed on the coaching staff. If you're Harbaugh, you avoid the early critisicm of Boller and Troy's play by inserting Flacco and saying you want him to get experience. If Troy even sniffs a poor performance, the pressure is on to play Flacco.

I think Troy would give the coaching staff some lee-way, but my guess is they insert Flacco early and then utilize the "rookie QB" growing pains excuse when they're sub .500.

I think Brady Quinn would have gotten the early experience had it not been for Derek Anderson eating Cinncinatti's lunch after the Pittsburgh debacle.
