QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

i'm buying beers for my friends as long as the Ravens don't take Ryan at 8. If they take Henne at any point, someone will need to reassemble my head after it explodes.

Can we be friends?

I don't see them taking Ryan at 8. I think they have other needs more important, such as those guys who would be protecting whomever the QB is. I think they'll take a QB in the second round, I could see it being Henne, Flacco, Brohm, but really, none of these QBs are going to step in and help them any more than Troy. So it's a wasted pick. But I'm fairly biased.

I expect Troy to be higher on the depth chart than any QB they draft.

I've been following this thread for quite a while and felt the urge to drop in my 2 cents of conjecture. My feeling is that Troy Smith will have success in this league, but it's not going to be with the Baltimore Ravens. Historically they're a team that likes to load up on D and have a traditional pocket passer in at QB, regardless of who is head coach. Some approaches to the game just seem to be built into an organization. McNair seemed to be an experiment by the organization and unfortunately his lack luster play as a mobile passing QB last season has stacked the deck against Troy. Not sure what his contract was for, but I still believe that Troy Smith will be given a legitimate shot without negative expectations around year 3 or 4 of his career (by another team). At which point the Drew Brees comparisons will officially come full circle for a guy that is both mobile and dedicated to minimizing his turnovers. This is a story of persistence for the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Alright guys...so what are your thought on the Ravens drafting Flacco? I sure hope they give Troy a shot first. Just hated to see this. They spend a first round pick on a guy, and trade to get there, and you know they'll want to play him. Wouldn't want to admit they were wrong like the old Boller situation....

Here's hoping Troy plays so well they have no choice but to play him. C'mon Troy!

This works out well for Troy and should give him every chance to show what he's got. Flacco is not gonna step in and start right away, and he doesn't have a window-licker like Billick calling the shots anymore. It's up to Troy now.

This is a little bit similar to a Derek Anderson situation.

Brownies were suffering at QB, drafted the new savior, and BAM Anderson is a pro-bowler, and Quinn is riding the bench.

Brownies swallowed the 1st round pick in Brady and still stuck with Anderson.

I think Baltimore can do the same. Sure, they'll want to play with their new 1st round toy, but in the end it's the responsible choice to go with the better quarterback. I'm positive that it's Troy.

Hey guys, did Troy recently pass away and without one mention of it? Because, I haven't heard his name brought up once in all of the conversations about the Baltimore QB derby.

Troy seems to be getting lost in the middle here...Boller then Flacco...

I think Troy needs to win the starting job before the season starts. If not, I fear they'll let Boller go until they think Flacco is ready. Not like the Ravens are a playoff team.

But Troy has always risen to the occasion, so no way he goes quietly into the night...

I'm seeing Boller's days as severly numbered. Flacco or Troy will be the starter this season with the other playing backup. Boller clearly has the least potential skill set of the 3 and it'll likely show come camp time.

Hang in there Troy! You've been in this position before, you can do it.

Kind of a random comment here, but I'd love for Troy to go to Minnesota. Fantastic offensive line, fantastic running game, fantastic defense. Perfect situation for a young QB whose name is NOT Tarvaris Jackson. I know they don't have big-name receivers, but I like Sidney Rice and think he could be a very solid WR with a QB..

Please no, it would kill me to see anymore Buckeyes in the NFC North not playing for Chicago. I'd love to have Troy with the Bears because he honestly cannot be much worse than Orton or Grossman, who aren't necessarily as bad as they are made out to be but we know who they are by now (although given our situation I'm still holding out on Grossman to be serviceable).

ESPN isn't mentioning Troy because Joe Flacco and Kyle Boller are obviously better QBs. :wink2:

He'd probably be decent there, but I would like to see him in Minnesota because of the players around him. I hate the Vikings - but it would be a good opportunity. And it's ironic that your name is Viking, by the way. Haha

If Baltimore doesn't work out, he needs to go to the Niners.. that's where I'd really like to see him.
