QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I was about to post the same thing. It's comedy at this point. How does one come to the conclusion that a team that has lost 8 straight games with a deplorable QB is better off with that QB (who has no future) than the young backup that has moved the ball both chances he got? One doesn't. It's his pathetic ego. If I were a Ratbirds fan (heaven forbid), I'd want this ass lynched in downtown baltimore.

No, no, don't you get it? Billick must be a genius - going against common wisdom like this, sticking by his own tenets.

Surely there isn't another explanation (laurels living on, too early Super Bowl, living off past fame, huge ego, stubborn, inflexible, believes practice QB highlights versus actual game performance).

Sometimes the sarcasm font IS redundant.

Here's the thing: the point was made earlier that the Ravens O-line is miserable. Swinging gates.

I think that Billick is preserving his treasure at quarterback until he can upgrade his O-line (or learn some protection schemes) during the offseason.

Why throw Troy to the wolves now? Let him spell Boller. Troy doesn't need to be the starter NOW. He will get his chance - why rush it? Wait for a more opportune time.

I seriously hope that's the case. But somehow I have a feeling that he's going to draft some 1st round QB... :/

It's this sort of thought process that has their team sucking as bad as it does...how do fuckers like this keep their jobs? Seriously...

How long have baseball teams been bunting with a man on first and nobody out?

How many games did Tressel stick with Zwick? With Bellisari?

Carson Palmer sat the entire first season with the Bengals... wait a minute... what does a Bengal decision have to do with reality?

the good news for Troy is he has been getting some screen time, some notice, and if his future is not in Baltimore, someone else will give him a shot, you got to believe.

Five years from now, people will laugh when they remember him backing up Boller all year.

And maybe he would have bombed if he had gotten a lot of playing time in September, but now is the time to give him some quality time.

I think the other problem may be the TEAM wants to give Troy a shot and the coach is determined to maintain hiscontrol over the team.

soap opera stuff....

Hang in there, Troy!

On Boller Vs. T. Smith And Other Issues

Rushing T. Smith is rash; Boller will do for now

Ravens coach Brian Billick said yesterday he intends to start Kyle Boller at quarterback against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, and it's a good move.

Baltimore is a city that has been so quarterback-deprived that there is a fan outcry to start anyone with promise, even a rookie like Troy Smith.

But there is no need to rush Smith - not behind this offensive line.

Boller played well against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but had to leave the game midway through the fourth quarter with a mild concussion.

Smith, a Heisman Trophy winner out of Ohio State, also played well while leading the team on three possessions at the end of the game.

Everyone knows that Boller isn't the answer at quarterback and is just a backup, but Smith isn't ready to take all the repetitions in practice with the first team and then start against the Seahawks.

There is time, folks. Smith got a series and scored against the Indianapolis Colts, and he played with the game on the line against Miami. These are nice steps, and hopefully he'll get some time against Seattle.

But what is interesting is how the Ravens seemed to rally around Smith, and a lot of them seemed to prefer Smith over Boller, a five-year veteran.

Inside The Ravens With Aaron Wilson
Billick: Boller will remain Ravens' starter ~ December 18, 2007

OWINGS MILLS -- Kyle Boller will remain the Baltimore Ravens' starting quarterback despite a mild concussion and a promising outing by rookie backup Troy Smith, according to coach Brian Billick.

Even though Boller was knocked out of the game midway through the fourth quarter of a 22-16 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins and complained of blurred vision, team officials anticipate him recovering in time for Wednesday's practice and returning to the lineup Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Boller was still suffering a headache Monday, among other lingering effects.

And Billick avoided the potential headache of a quarterback controversy by quickly pronouncing that Boller will remain under center, barring an injury setback, for the final two games as Baltimore (4-10) tries to avoid ending the season on a franchise-record 10-game losing streak.

"We're going to continue to take the tack that we're going to try to win every week," Billick said. "Kyle played very well and deserves the opportunity to grow. In my opinion, Kyle gives us the best chance to win the game, although we're prepared to go with Troy if that presents itself."

Maybe because Boller's had 5 years to get it done and proven he can't. Does Billick need a building to fall on his head to get it?

I was happy when Troy was drafted by the Ravens figuring he'd get a chance to start in a year or two given the state of QBing in Baltimore. Should be an interesting 08 pre-season.

Don't know how long they can hold on to that defense while finally finding a QB.

According to Billick, Kyle deserves the opportunity to grow. Is he kidding? The guy has had 5 years to grow, including several years of being the starting QB, yet they brought in McNair b/c they realized Boller wasn't getting it done. Boller has proven over a 5 year period that he was a bust as a first round pick and that he will never be an effective starting QB in the NFL. For Billick to suggest that Boller is a first or second year QB that "deserves the opportunity to grow" is an utter refusal to admit that he might have been wrong in selecting Boller as a first rounder. No wonder Baltimore has lost 8 in a row.

I wouldn't be to worried about Baltimore drafting a QB in the 1st round...I think the NFL is really starting to see the advantage that comes with grooming your QB rather than throwing him to the lions. If Baltimore did draft a QB he wouldn't start immediately and Troy would have sufficient time to show his quals-all he needs is that chance.
