QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I continue to hope for Troy to prove all of the "draft experts" wrong, but if reports that he copped out of the 40 due to being out of shape from being on the banquet circuit are true, then you have to worry. Many people don't run at the combine, but don't give some bullshit excuse.

Spielman summarized quite well this afternoon... this was his job interview, and he showed up largely unprepared and unless he lights up the track on OSU's pro day, his draft status will likely suffer for it.

No offense to Troy, but he knew his stock was dropping and he still didn't go to the combine in shape. "Banquet circuit" or not his goal should have been to impress the scouts at the combine.

The reports that he didn't run because of the banquet circuit are very true. I, and I'm sure some others here, heard it from the horse's mouth in an interview at the combine.
I agree that it's a huge mistake for Troy to not run because he's out of shape. He, at least, should have come up with a better reason than that. But to think that guys like Edwards and Kolb are better? Excuse me while I go laugh my ass off... at this point, he's a distant 4 IMO.
My biggest worry is if the 8th and all the questions about his size are finally getting to him. Some of the articles and interviews I've seen of late give me the impression that he is starting to get very frustrated and on-edge around the media. I think he could probably use some Tressel or Ginn Sr. love right now.

Didn't the banquet circuit end before the NC? Six weeks seems like it should've been enough time to lose any extra pounds gained during the month banquet circuit.

I think Troy is just waiting till pro day at OSU. By the time it rolls around I bet Troy will be 10 pounds lighter and impress everyone with a 4.4 in the 40.

I can see Troy going to the Browns with the 36th pick. No way is Frye a better QB then Troy, so thats a upgrade, and with the local ties, it will bring more fans into Cleveland to watch some games.

I wouldn't put money on that 4.4. He only ran a 4.6 going in to college any was never straight line burner. I hear he has a killer shuttle time thought.

Add that to the fact that he's bulked up... also, what did VY run last year? Wasn't it right around 4.6? This is all speculation, but I don't think Troy is as fast as Vince was... I'd go with a respectable 4.65-4.75

I respectfully disagree with you here. I think Troy is a little bit faster than Vince in an all out sprint. I dont know why he is faster other than God given speed, but from what i see from both of them, I think Troy is faster. Now yes i havent seen them race each other but i think Troy just has a little bit of an edge for speed. I mean when Troy is out of the pocket and committed to running, he is fast, very fast. I just think a 4.75ish 40 time would be a bit high; i would say around a 4.5 (WHEN HE IS IN THE SAME SHAPE HE WAS DURING THE SEASON) IMO

Vince ran a 4.5 at the combine if I remember correctly.
