on wknr here in Cleveland a guy called in and said he saw Phil Savage (Browns GM) in the airport and asked him about Troy. Phil's response was

No way is Troy a 1st round pick (2nd - 4th round)

he sited

1. troy is listed at 6' but is actually 5'11" (i hate when people keep bringing this up)

2. Troy played behind a brick wall of an OL and his WRs were wide open all year long...was never really challenged .

3. Troy's throwing motion begins way behind his helmet and needs to be much quicker for the speed of the NFL game. his mechanics would have to be completely reworked for the next level.

Not my opinion, but simply a guy on the radio claiming this was Phil Savage's opinion....

What does that guy know. Has he been watching Troy Smith. Not every quaterback is going to be perfect with their mechanics but they get the job done and thats what TS can do. About the 2nd-4th round pick thing he said, that is a load of crap. That is the only time i have heard a projected pick for TS past the 2nd round.

I think its obvious that TS will not be a brown??

Reality check - have the Cleveland Browns, in recent memory, been referred to as a a group that knows how to get the most out of the draft?

Seriously...the entire Browns front office has been a joke since they came back...I used to be a huge Browns fan, but I just haven't been able to tolerate all of the garbage that has happened...their drafts have been atrocious and their off season acquisitions have been pretty much non-existent. I thought it would be difficult to alienate the Browns' fan base after Modell took the team to Baltimore and so many stayed loyal, but Savage, etc are doing a hell of a job doing just that

The only front office opinion I respect less than the Browns currently is one form the Raiders

yep... certainly a brick wall against UM :roll1:

And his scrambling TD pass against a big rush against Penn State...

And his scrambling TD pass against a big rush against Indiana...

And his scrambling TD pass, in the grasp of a DL, against Michigan State...

Yep, Troy never had a difficult TD pass all year...

All these points are true-well, I don't know about completely re-working his mechanics-but the point is-so-what! Smith is same size-maybe even built a bit better than the frontrunner for NFL MVP this year. As for the OL and WRs-would it be better if he played for Indiana or Iowa State and had to run for his life and throw the ball to slower WRs-he could be considered a brilliant "discovery" instead of a Heisman winner!?!
I can see the point about Troy not having a whiplash release, but if Vince Young can get drafted 3rd overall w/ his "Bernie K Pt2" release, I don't see why Troy's release should be a problem.
Bottom line-Troy is comparable to Drew Brees, but w/ a stronger arm.

i dont mean to go against any one but am i not seeing something with Drew Brees? Can Drew Brees get out of the pocket a run like TS. Never seen him do it.

Brees was actually pretty proficient at scrambling in college, i think he rushed for like 500-600 yds his senior year at Purdue

Anyone else reminded of the movie "Let it Ride ?" The main charachter picks his horse by eliminating all the ones his loser friends tell him will win and betting on the one that no one picked. Same story here.

This is one of the most profound things I've heard all week!!:groove:

Besides an offensive line they need to bring in someone to evaluate talent.:!

Fall a lil' shy in this area!!:horse:

Why do we always have to compare a black QB (Smith) to a white QB (Brees?)

Well, if we compared Troy to black QB's constantly, then it would be only because they are both black. How about if we compare him to a black and white cow since he likes to drink milk....wait....damn...milk is white...nevermind.
