QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Joe Thomas should be the Browns first selection. The blocking up front is atrocious...

completely agree...Joe Thomas should be the Browns #1 priority. Shaffer isn't getting the job done and Tucker's career is fading fast.

I'd love to see Troy drop to the 2nd round for the Browns, but I feel that Cleveland seems to be the black hole for quarterbacks. Browns quarterbacks from '99: Detmer, Couch, Pederson, Wynn, Holcomb, Garcia, McCown, Dilfer, Frye, and Anderson

I hope wherever Troy goes he has a chance to develop. This would negate teams like Detroit, TB and Cleveland who always seem to have that immediate need. Their QB's never have a chance to develop because they are always under serious fan scrutiny while running for their lives....

I think that what would be best for Troy Smith, as well as best for whoever drafts him, in the long run, would be for him to be drafted by a team that does not need a quarterback, yet, and has a solid offensive line. Give him 1-3 years as a back-up, and give him a little playing time. His time will come and he'll be a solid quarterback, who will be single-handedly responsible for more wins than losses.

Try to make him too early, and with a bad offensive line, and he'll get Tim Couched right out of the league.

I think if I were an NFL team with a solid quarterback, I would try to wait until the second round to draft him. However, I'd be listening to trade offers, if another team wants to draft him.

If I were an NFL team without a solid quarterback, I'd either be looking to make some trades for one, or I'd get Troy Smith and and try to trade away all my defensive talent that I can for an offensive line.

Staying in Ohio would be great but that ownership of that franchise is horrible :( I am afraid they would pretty much ruin Troys carreer.

I know coach Tressel don't need Troy Smith in Browns uni to call it a dream job... but it would sure help him a little in that decision.

I think Troy would change browns for ever... it would be a great fit. Bears will take him in the late first round though since Browns will not pick him up in early first round.

I don't think of any the past Browns QB's listed were gamebreaking/all-pro potential either...this is an organization that hasn't put together a solid team since its re-birth.......its just bad mistake after bad mistake, and horrible personnel decesions year after year.....I think a majority of Cleveland fans knew Frye wasn't the answer, so basically we have to start at square 1 next year....if we somehow decide Derek Anderson deserves a shot we'll be back at square 1 in 2008-2009.....we haven't had a decent secondary since our re-birth either...since the expansion team I think our best corner has been Daylon McCutcheon.....thats pretty horrible....this teams needs to be exploded as someone said in another thread and completely rebuilt...I'd like to rebuild around Troy

Nah, they offered a contract to Chrissy recently, iirc. Gradkowski has decent upside, and I believe they like their other backup (who was hurt).

Yeah you're probably right. With Gradkowski being a rookie who was pushed into duty before they wanted him to be, he's done better than expected for a 6th rounder thrown into that situation. Hell, he beat out Rattay who had some starting experiance the past two seasons and if Simms recovery is going well then it probably wouldn't be the best move for them as a team.

When I first read the thread I just pictured Gruden falling in love with him at the Senior Bowl this year ala Cadillac Williams in 2005.

After actually looking things over though, I'll switch it up and say Minnesota in the middle of the 1st round.

Quarterback
B. Johnson, #14
B. Bollinger, #9
T. Jackson, #7

That's a pretty ugly depth chart.

I think that Troy will be a mid to late first round pick. His height is the only downside, but I think that he's going to make some NFL team very happy. The guy has "it", just like Vince Young did last year, and Drew Brees did a few years back.

if the draft were today i would expect him to go in the 20's somewhere. but if he plays like he did against scum in the nc game... i wouldn't be surprised in the least if he found his way into the teens. potentially into the low teens depending on the nc game and how well he performs in the combine.

the sports reporter on CNBC just did a piece on the Heisman. At the end he reported that many scouts see Troy going mid to bottom first round. Who knows though. If he lights up Florida he could obviously raise his stock.

As long as he outperforms Quinny in the NFL, I really don't care. I would LOVE to see him go early 1st, but mid-late 1st is more likely at this point I know.

I would honestly much prefer to see him go mid-late first. He's far more likely to end up on a team that already has some pieces and an OL around him. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing him go to the Eagles and study under McNabb (if he recovers?) or Baltimore under McNair.
Chicago sounds good too, but do people think they're really going to draft a QB in the first round? I don't follow the NFL much, but even I've heard all the rhetoric they're saying about Grossman. Will that tune change if Chicago gets knocked out of the playoffs?

i know it has been said...but the bears seem like an ideal fit to me

I would love that. The measureables go against Troy, but I think he has all the intangibles..when he interviews at the combine, I think he moves up. If he continues the path he started last year he will be successful. One thing I liked about Troy early on is he earned his teamates respect. I believe the SRs drafted him No. 1 for the spring game 2003, that shows me he showed them something. As a Bear fan I'd take him to start on Sunday let alone next year.

I'd like to see...

I'd like to see TS go to a team that's more like a College atmosphere franchise, like Green Bay. Tampa's too conservative and I think Gruden's lost his innovative edge. It was said before, the Browns franchise is horrible. I'd like to see TS go to Green Bay, Denver or Chicago.

As for timing, someone said that height is the only thing holding him back. I still think in the right system, he'll win Super Bowls eventually (like 4-5 years down the line).

All of this said, I don't care where he goes in the draft. I'm just so proud of how he's played and conducted himself. He's number one on my charts for sure.
