QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Pro scouts are worthless when it comes to evaluating QB's. Too short my ass.

Gotta look at the bright side of things. I think it'll work out in his favor. As I said before, I'd prefer to see him go to a decent team that has some pieces around. If there is a "height issue", perhaps it'll keep the flies at bay and the team that selects Troy will be sure in their decision and not just picking him cuz he was on Mel's big board. (which is how I often feel about Browns' selections)

teams would be foolish to pass on Troy because of his size. He has all the tools need to be a successful NFL QB.

1. He has the arm the stregth.
2. He has the accuaracy.
3. He makes good decisions with the ball.

:osu:
Plus he is athletic enough to avoid pressure and pick up extra yards. He has shown the dedication to film study and preparation. I would be shocked if Troy is not an excellent NFL QB.

Me too. I'm hoping he gets drafted by a team with a good veteran QB that he can learn from like Carson Palmer and Phillip Rivers have done. Baltimore seems like a great fit. Maybe Chicago.

I could see Troy falling to Miami at about 16-18 in the first round. Culpepper may never recover and Harrington just cant get it done. Ronnie Brown and, next year Ricky's back, can carry the running load. The receivers are athletic and they have a nice TE. If Miami can address their Oline in free agency I would think south Florida would be a great fit. Miami's defense is strong but the veterans are getting older so they may go that direction but Smith would be very difficult to pass up there.

Of course we do have Saban and his SEC blinders. :(

The Lions could use a leader, and/or a winner, I'd like to see Troy in detroit. But knowing my Lions they'll probly draft Calvin Johnson in the first and Reggie Ball in the second.

Troy in Detroit would be sacrilege to me. There's only one junk team I'd like to see get him -- the Browns.

Why would you want to send Troy there. What did he do to deserve that fate. The Lions won't be good until they get get about 15 more players.
I'd rather see him go to a team with a future.

I'm thinking (well, hoping) that Philadelphia will be looking at him as a future replacement for McNabb. They are very similar-style quarterbacks, and I think that McNabb would help out Smith greatly. Not to mention the Eagles would have a pretty solid backup untill McNabb is ready to retire, down the road.

Another very possible situation for Troy could be the Bears. They would probably have a late first round pick anyways, and definitely need a quality quarterback. Imagine how nasty Chicago would be with an experianced Troy at QB, Cedric Benson developing, and then with that defense.:yow1:

Truthfully I worry about Troy without JT to watch over him. I don't know if anyone will realize exactly what JT has done for him until a few years down the road. I think he's at best a second round pick, but no worse than 3rd. The height is going to kill him. Troy doesn't have the Vick speed or the VY mix of size and speed that scouts will look at. His shuttle time will impress the scouts. :p

I'm afraid that you are right. But hopefully he will keep his head straight, work hard and come out great . There is a place for him in the NFL.

Assuming that some teams are too far away from improving their O-line to protect the Quarterback, I think one of the best ways to find a fit is as follows

A - Team that has given up a reasonably low number of sacks.
(Speaks to a good, stable O-line)
B - Team in group A that is not riding very high in the standings.
Will be ready to pick a QB if needed.
C - Team in sub-group of A that is in group B that has a need (or perceived need) for a QB.

A -- B -- C type teams?
Some of those mentioned before
Miami -- given up 32 sacks, QBs on staff Culpepper and Harrington. Looking for help period.
Cincy -- given up 30 sacks, fewer now, Palmer & Wright on Staff. Might look for a replacement or addition to Wright.
Baltimore - 16 sacks McNair and Bolger on Staff. McNair has been rejuvenated, but the future demands new talent be groomed.
Philly -- Given up 22 Sacks, McNabb and Garcia, the soup man is one injury away from giving Philly heartburn again.
Green Bay - 19 sacks given up Legend at the helm, Rodgers in the wings. Needs a third quality QB to give them a good prime and back-up.

Not mentioned, but maybe not needing a QB?
Tennessee -- Gave up 18 sacks - Young is the future though and Troy would be a perennial backup lest Young falter or get injured. Collins is the type of journeyman who may just move on after the season ends.
Redskins -- 15 sacks yielded - Campbell was it for them in the recent drafts, so why is Brunell getting all the snaps? Fewer mistakes? More dependable?

Unless an outside chance like the Titans or Redskins takes a chance on Troy I suggest that the likeliest, friendliest home would be the Ravens.
