QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I see Troy being a second or third rounder, mostly because of his size. Also because no Ohio St QB has done much in the NFL besides Kent Graham and (walkon) Mike Tomczak.

Also, with Troy's psychological makeup (strong leader) I think it will take a team that has a secure coaching staff and is pretty intelligent, too. So I see him going to New England to (potentially) replace Brady in a few years or to Denver or Dallas.

It's been mentioned before on here too, but I really can't see Denver going after another QB. The coaching staff around this void-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-dump is that Cutler will mature and be great once he stops giving freebie interceptions, and the media has been agreeing. Right now the line is that the Broncos are alright so long as they make it to the playoffs and don't get completely outclassed.

I see him going late first to early second. Most likely teams: Bears, Lions, Eagles (I think he's a good back up for McNabb), Chiefs, Browns

The Raiders are most in need of QB help and will probably go after Quinn.

I'd love to see him as a Brown. I think Frye is way overrated. I would say the Lions would be his best shot at a starting gig in the next 2 years.

Just noticed that Troy has broken into Mel Kiper's "Big Board" for the first time this season, debuting at #20.

As the draftniks finally start breaking down film, Troy's stock will go up.

Mel has Troy listed at 6-0, 213 - no clue where he got that figure.

20. Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State (6-0, 213) | previous: Unranked
A consummate winner, Smith performed at his best on the biggest stages. (See his 3-0 record against Michigan, a bowl win over Notre Dame and road win this season at Texas.) He's a great player who makes those around him better, and he has a great ability to keep plays alive with his mobility. His arm strength is excellent and if he was two or three inches taller, Smith would be talked about as a top-five pick.

if the draft were today i would expect him to go in the 20's somewhere. but if he plays like he did against scum in the nc game... i wouldn't be surprised in the least if he found his way into the teens. potentially into the low teens depending on the nc game and how well he performs in the combine.

I don't see the NC game being a statement game for TS the way it was for Vince last year. Vince lead his team agaist the mighty USC and won the game almost on sheer willpower. This year, Troy is the leader of the superpower. And with all the weapons around thim (not saying Vince didn't have them) TS just needs to do his job. His stock will rise after the combine and after the interviews. When teams see how contrite he is about his mistake and what a down to earth teamplayer he is, they will all fall in love with him. There may be some teams moving up to call his name in the 15 area.

I once was sure Quinn would go in front of him, but that is what we all thought about VY and ML last year. For sure he is in the top 3 QB's selected with Quinn and a mix of Russell or Stanton or possibly Brohm in the mix.

Regarding Troy's alleged dwarfism:

a) he's been throwing behind an NFL sized OL all season (6'8", 6'8", 6'5", 6'6", 6'7"),

b) he's had very few passes tipped at the line,

c) he has learned to compensate for his dwarfism by developing a very high release point in his throwing motion (he throws 6'2" or 6'3")

Pro scouts are capable of discerning these things. Troy will go high.
