QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

IMHO, the most important feature a QB must have is to be a leader. With that said, I'm not sure why but Zwick just didn't seem to have it. While the jury's still out on Smith, he has not thrown an interception yet and has great escape ability. Only time will tell if either of them will be the QB to lead this team. Who knows, it may be Beockman.

Every time I compliment Smith my red blocks increase. Zwick is prowling the boards looking to devestate my reputation. I shake my fist at you Justin!

OK I'm bak and Lloydsev you completely contradicted yourself by saying you Disagree because we had a 14-0 lead. You have tried to point out that it was the offenses fault for not making plays and moving that chains rather than the coaches play calling? I thought Smith played very well for his first TRUE start! also Indiana beat Minneasota so that says alot considering Minny just about beat Michigan. Maybe he/the offense just played very well last week instead of us completely beat'n up on a inferior opponent? also someone pointed out that 6-8 with no Int's and a Win is completely fine in my book also! especially if the QB can make it happen with his legs!
Play calling is totally different than anything else I have said thus far. In fact, I don't think I have even said that the guys didn't play well. I believe I said that since there wasn't enough shown today that I would have to withold my judgement on Smith for a future date. I don't know how I contradicted myself by making a comment about Tressel's playcalling, except acknowledging why I have to hold my judgement....

No, the problem is that the OL kept committing holding penalties on big plays.
Actually at least one of the big play holding penalties was on a WR. In the Indiana game a WR had one too. I guess it at least shows they are trying to block which is a big improvement from first 6 games,

I'm a little comfused. It's like I watched a different game than some of you. First, that was not a good Penn State team. Off., def., special teams, they all s--ked. If not for the 71 yd. punt, Penn State did nothing. It was as if none of them wanted to be there. If our def. does't score two TD's, we barely win. Our off. was so bad today that most MAC teams would have beat us today. The only QB in the B10 worse than Smith is the one that started for Penn State. The only bad game Zwick had was NW, and by then he had been mugged so badly that he didn't know which way was up. Did anyone notice the panic Smith was in when he had to replace Zwick against Iowa? Oh, that's right. He lead the Buckeyes to their only score. Against Iowa's fourth team defense.
Just remember, after the Cinn. game, everyone loved Zwick. He even threw two long TD's in that one. In two games, Smith hasn't even completed a long pass, or come close. Smith is a WR. Zwick is the only QB we have. You'll see soon enough.

Well then, Einstein, you indeed must've watched a different game. You think PSU's defense sucks? You mean the defense that held Iowa to 6 points...the very same Iowa offense that ran roughshod over us the week prior? The defense that currently (including today's games) ranks third in conference scoring defense and first in conference passing defense? Did you miss the bullshit fumble call in the third quarter which took the ball from us well inside PSU territory when we were on a sustained drive? As for Smith vs Zwick, I've seen every play of every game. While neither Zwick nor Smith are world-class QBs, Smith has looked better overall. Although Zwick completed a couple long TDs very early in the season, Smith also completed a 23-yard TD pass, which was a true 23-yarder and not a short pass with a big YAC. And Zwick's accuracy was highly suspect in his last three games. Smith has been just as accurate as Zwick and is more mobile. You say everyone loved Zwick after Cincy...well, everyone loved Bellisari after the 1999 UCLA game. By the way, Zwick two long TS passes came against Marshall, not Cincinnati. Even when Zwick fully heals his shoulder, I want Smith starting.

Penn State showed up to play a very good Iowa team, and they never showed up when playing a bottom-of-the-standings Buckeye team. I'm just thankful that Mills didn't play. It's amazing how you picked the one game that Iowa didn't show up. But then, Maryland beat Miami, State nearly beat scUM, Okla. State nearly beat Okla., and Flor. State was blown out. So what's your point? And as far as campaigning for Zwick, I'm not doing that. The two game I saw him play in high school I was not impressed with him (Mass. lost both games). But I know one think. Let him get any kind of running game behind him, and you're going to see a different Zwick. Just like you're about to see the real Smith. If I'm wrong (and I truly hope that I am, for the Buckeye's sake), I'll be back to eat the humble pie. XOXOXO, Einstein

I though that Smith looked Okay. Going up 14 - 0 there is no way JT was going to start throwing the ball. Plus with the heavy wind we had today it was nice not to have to. People wanting high scoring games should stick with basket ball.

You must be really dizzy from spinning the issue. I also suppose that Wisconsin (16 points at home), Minnesota (also 16 points at home), and Purdue (20 points at PSU) didn't show up against them either. :roll1:

Oh yeah, what does Mills have to do with it? You mean the Zack Mills that piled up 82 yards on 7 out of 19 with 2 Ints and a 52.0 rating against that same Iowa team that didn't show up? We've beat him the last two times we played against him.

I cannot - in all honesty - say that I don't remember who played quarterback for us yesterday versus PSU, but Smith's play had about as much to do with us winning the game as the seasonal migration of the fucking vagrants on High St.

Here are the two things that facilitated our victory:

1) Ted Ginn's athleticism - Ted Ginn is the only real beacon of promise on our offense. The contrast between him and the opposing defense was almost as incredible as that between him and the rest of our offense.

2) Michael Robinson - Michael Robinson was 7 of 21 for 72 yards and two picks, one of which resulted in seven of our 21 points. His 20 carries for 55 yards were a pathetic attempt on his part to appear productive. Quite frankly, if we relied as much on Smith as PSU did on Robinson today, I would expect something pretty similar (low completion percentage, low yards, a couple of TOs) from #10.

Other than that, the only person/aspect of the game I'm willing to heap praise on is Maurice Hall. I don't pretend to think that's he's good all of a sudden, but he played very well today, both returning kicks and running the ball.

Bottom line is, neither Zwick nor Smith has my vote. If I have to choose between a turd sandwich and a giant douche, then I definitely choose to abstain.
