QB Tavien St. Clair (Official Thread)

Josh and pnuts make very valid points about the 2 situations, but I believe they leave out 1 key factor. Carr was told to go win the game. Fahey was told we have the lead. These are your 3 goals:
1. Do not turn the ball over.
2. Do not turn the ball over.
3. Do not turn the ball over.
Let our defense win it by going out and shutting down IU and the zebras.
And our defense did an excellent job against IU. Against the zebras? Well, they at least did enough to keep the zebras from taking the W away from us.
We will see a completely different Fahey against SC. Will it be enough? I have no idea. But it will not be what we saw Saturday.
GO BUCKS!!
I agree 100%. Luke was playing not to lose and put the burden to win the game on the Buckeye defense.

I am behind Fahey, but I did rewatch the highlight real of this kids spring game... Your telling me this kid can't run the same offense that Fields ran?? His skill set is very similar to his. His arm strength and effortless running ability would be hard to keep off the field if I am Day. Especially knowing that he's gone forever if you don't give him a chance this year. I hate to say it, but sometimes going with the player with more upside is the right call...

After what saw from Fahey, would believe that the competition was very much open. Don't really much care who's under center, only hope it's the person that gives us the best chance to win a game. Another sad thought crossed my mind, this might derail Jeremiah's run toward a Heisman. Cannot catch, make TDs, wow the crowd unless the ball is somewhere near him, no?

Tavien St. Clair is Getting A Chance to Compete for Ohio State’s Starting Quarterback Job

164782_h.jpg

Ryan Day made it clear Tuesday night that Luke Fahey did enough in practice the last month to win the backup job over Tavien St. Clair.

“That's why he went in first,” Day said.

Fahey was the first quarterback off the bench against Ball State, Kent State, Maryland and most recently, Indiana, where he saw his first competitive snaps – having previously played only in blowouts – after Julian Sayin was injured.

But with Sayin out “indefinitely” and the bye week underway, Day is giving opportunities to both Fahey and St. Clair. And while Fahey is the frontrunner to start against USC on Halloween, it appears St. Clair can't be counted out yet.

"Now that we have a bye week, these guys are both going to get a lot of reps, and we're going to start to put together a plan on how we're going to move forward, and we're going to play the guy that gives us the best chance to win," Day said. "And so we'll get both these guys some reps and get an idea of how these next couple of days go."

Day didn't outright name Fahey the starter against the Trojans, much like he didn't rule Sayin out for the year, but you can read between the lines for both situations.

Yes, Fahey won the quarterback competition during fall camp to back up Sayin. But that was then. This is now. While the job is still Fahey’s to lose, the bye week and Sayin’s injury gives St. Clair a new opportunity to compete with Fahey for position on the depth chart. And perhaps that could be the spark St. Clair needs to start showing he can make good on his five-star potential.

Truly hope that when TSC learned he was #3, he continued, or maybe upped his intensity on the practice field. Did more of whatever, hit the weightroom harder, whatever a QB does to improve himself. Instead of moping around, bemoaning that he was a 5*, losing out to a 3*. Would hope that he internally fortified himself, and went after it harder. Would be a great article for some newsie to have written, but didn't see one. Nevertheless, am hoping (for Buckeyes sake), that he is entering this redo with another level of skillset, attitude adjustment, and whatever it takes to make an athlete great. The 'next man up' attitude will hopefully prevail. Also believe that Day will play both, as under fire experience is worth more than dummy drills (no touchee on QB) during weekly practices. Will be interesting. Seem to recollect that Stroud was kept on a leash, as there was no seasoned QB behind him. Go Bucks!
