QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

That is evidence of mishandling if you assume there was a way to have both Fields and Martell. If you put the limitation that it should have been done without lying to anyone, it makes the assumption narrower.

I'm sure you were very upset that Urban and staff led Burrow to believe he had a real shot of beating Haskins.

As i've repeated a million times now ... managing people is a skill. They missed with both Mathis and Tate leaving us thin and reliant on NCAA to not screw us.
This is a learning opportunity for Day imo.

In that we have ZERO inside intel on what convos happened, it seems that any assumption of handling this well or poorly is just pure speculation. Every day is a learning opportunity for every human, so yeah, Day should learn from this whether he handled it perfectly or not. None of us know the truth on it of what he is to learn from it.

It's been mismanaged.

YES! Exactly! If Day wouldn't have let Haskins put up such huge numbers, he never would have been a Heisman finalist and probably would not have left for the draft. If he's still in the picture, we have no depth problem. Simple. Stupid coaching staff, making guys successful and shit! Now look where we are as a result!

Discernment is a skill too. Let's take a look at how well the QBs are being managed from the final rankings:

1. Clemson? 1 star, no depth.
2. Bama? 1 star, no depth.
3. OSU? Unknown (extreme floor/ceiling), but no depth.
4. OU? Their backup is already in the transfer portal.
5. ND? Eh, their depth is Jurkovec and a 3-star that was in HS this fall.
6. LSU?
7. UF - The first team with depth (4 qbs) but no one above would trade places with their QB room.
8. UGA - Obviously not.

Stopping here because the following teams are less well known, not as relevant nationally (to a playoff) and I have to cut it off somewhere.

It's amusing how same people piled on when i said Tate could transfer before there was ever a competition...
and now that I'm pointing out that letting him go before we even know NCAA waiver results is a mistake it's the other way.

Sunshine and rainbow crew out in full force pushing the sour grapes narrative.

Along with thousands of others on the internet.

Never mind what your statement suggests about the manageability of that situation, including before Fields started looking.

Letting him go, huh?

So the takeaway from your harsh criticism is that other peoples are peddling sourness? That's neat.

Lock it up, all of the info is in.

Bonus question: was it mishandled that Baldwin was not courtside too?
The grass appearing greener from afar?

Keep trying to change the topic... stand by my original post despite how many different people trying to put words in my mouth.

Outside looking in, feels this was mishandled by staff... but i think he was gone after Spring anyway.
Learning moment for Day, hopefully.
Destination seems very questionable and he has to sit a 3rd year now before competing for a QB job... but i guess its personal for him. Enjoy the beaches, Tate.

Then tell us how it could be handled well by the staff, since you were the seer in this.
I dont know what was said. But looking in definitely doesnt look like there was going to be much of a competition... Fields didnt come here to sit.
And i dont have a problem with that.
Haskins was a foregone conclusion... Urban still managed to manage/set expectations with Burrow. Granted, as you say, Burrow is more mature himself and made that a lot easier.
But it doesnt change the reality. We're waiting on NCAA to flip a coin on Fields, a 2nd year guy in Baldwin, and a grad xfer Chuganov that i appreciate being here... but hope never sees the field.
So yes, I'd say between losing Mathis and completely failing to walk Tate off the ledge... the situation is less than ideal.

You were asked a nuanced question here:
I'm not sure I understand, then, what you view as the likely mishandling of the situation. I think you are speculating that Day gave Fields some kind of assurance to get him to come to OSU; i.e. he told Fields that if Fields transferred to OSU, Fields would probably or almost certainly be the starting quarterback. Speculative, but plausible. Do you think Day shouldn't have told Fields that?

Or do you think that Day should have told Fields that he'd probably be the starter, but should have told Martell something different in order to keep him around?

Or is it mainly the basketball seating with Meyer and Haskins that you view as the mishandling?
And you answered:
The mishandling is that we're still down to 3 QBs... 1 of whom is waiting on ever fickle NCAA, a rs frosh, and a suspect grad xfer.
Rather than talking Tate down and trying to sell him on a legit competition we got Haskins and Urban with Fields sitting courtside.
What was said to calm him down after the twitter tirades ? Anything ?
If we finish Mathis this isnt a problem either...
Which basically reads:

1) Doesn't matter, we lost QBs, so we screwed it up
2) Day probably didn't try to fix it, maybe at all

#2 is a pretty loud and harsh guess. If true, you should ask yourself why that would be done, and if it's the first time.

Burrow is an Ohioan with maturity, wisdom and a robust set of options to play right away if Haskins wins.
Martell is a west coast guy who has displayed his youth and appears to be racing for Coral Gables before the competition even though he has no route to play right away.

Few are arguing that it's ideal. The question is whether it was avoidable (other than not chasing Fields). I think that Tate's behavior screams no.

Also, Day not chasing Fields and Justin flipping to Miami/OU/etc may have still cleared the decks for Mathis to UGA.

I also strongly question how easily one could manage Tate. That's his business, and he only has one shot at this, so he should do what is right for him. Miami may be a better fit, especially with two really good QB talents in Columbus and feeling like he's being passed over.

I can’t wait to hear how Manny Diaz mismanaged his QBs when they have some transfers or Tathan doesn’t win or isn’t given the starting job.. I mean shit Lincoln Riley must be awful at managing his QBs .. he’s had 3 straight transfers to start for him.. that QB room is super thin....
