QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

You were asked a nuanced question here:

And you answered:

Which basically reads:

1) Doesn't matter, we lost QBs, so we screwed it up
2) Day probably didn't try to fix it, maybe at all

#2 is a pretty loud and harsh guess. If true, you should ask yourself why that would be done, and if it's the first time.

My original points are all nuanced... once again you attempt to pigeonhole me into things i never said nor implied.

There's nothing controversial with what i said... they missed something on both Mathis and Tate.
If the waiver goes through (90%), it's not a big deal.
Learning opportunity for the future.

I apologize for not being the rainbow-pumping Sam Webb of Ohio State and pointing out a small nuanced flaw with a positive take towards the future.

The horror.

He was talking about how he was going to be the starter one week, and in the transfer portal the next. That tells me he was either told he should go, or he didn't want to compete with Fields. If he was told he should go, nobody can fault him, but I find it hard to believe that anyone would suggest that it was in anyone's interest for him to leave before the Spring, regardless of whether thought Fields would be anointed. There is still the question of Field's waiver, and Tate now possibly having to rely on a waiver instead of a grad transfer. Hard to believe that NO ONE screwed anything up in this caper. I don't know how it could have been handled better, but it should have been handled better.

point of note: It has been pointed out that he was NOT on track to graduate in May... just an FYI so grad transfer was likely not an option

You continue to mix up "gambled" with "missed."

They gambled that it was worth it, and it's a big bet. Everyone saw the Tate fallout coming, with varying opinions on how long it could be held together before exploding. Few thought that Mathis would be a casualty of this but that's recruiting for you.

Ha!!
Just last week everyone was saying how Tate wouldnt transfer, i was stupid for suggesting we'd only keep one, his twitter was just 'alpha' behavior.

How quickly you guys change script.
I think you're all more upset about feeling 'betrayed' over that false narrative than you are that he's transfering.

I didn't really mind Tate talking before Fields was a buckeye. What matters is how you back it up (and whether the talking continues after they are teammates).

The talk was not backed up. Maybe he was done the minute Fields was chased. Maybe he didn't like Day's pitch. Maybe a lot of things. We're not likely to get an answer.

Not to pile on (and I barely skimmed all the back and forth on this), but in a situation where there’s a possibility that a 20 year old kid made a gut reaction decision that might not have been entirely thought through (who previously went through how many decimitments in the recruiting process?) and a possibility that the coaching staff did something wrong, are we really going to lean towards putting the blame primarily on the coaches?

Basketball game and Twitter tell us nothing about internal convos. And if Twitter is your guide, then anyonefollowing would think it positive to let a guy go if he tries to intimidate a guy into avoiding tOSU and then cuts ands runs as soon as the guy comes anway. You’ve lost me man.

Twitter was a huge red flag... while you guys were all convincing yourselves he was 'alpha' and a 'competitor', i thought it was plain as day he was 1 foot out the door.

Ah well, at least the locker room will be settled. Day also orchestrated the better part of the trade... c'est la vie.
Next time they'll maybe treat it with kid gloves. Not all 19yr olds have Burrow's maturity.

Instead of finding out how that pressure cooker would play out, he found a better fit.

When you say 'everyone', it's quite fair for me to comment about the consensus from just last week.

It very clearly was not everyone who thought Tate would transfer at all, and only me on the record stating it could happen before Spring.

Can you please elaborate on this? Be specific as to what Day could have done differently to prevent Tathan from transferring almost immediately after Fields signs or when the rumors were swirling?
